Wedding hog roast for Ashley

Wedding hog roast in Ashley, carved to order

Wedding timings shift, and a slow roast copes well: it can be held for a while once cooked, so a long speech will not ruin the food. Typical bookings include marquee weddings and relaxed, low-key weddings, with halloumi skewers, crackling and rotisserie chicken.

Rural weddings around Ashley have a magic of their own, and slow-roasted pork carved for guests adds to it. Plan firm ground and a route for our vehicle. Our chef carves in front of your guests, so every roll gets hot pork and a piece of crackling.

  • A serving area close to where guests eat
  • A level spot near, but not too near, the marquee
  • Light near the carving station after dark

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise.

What a hog roast costs

Each booking is quoted on its own, and the price depends on a few things:

  • Menu choices and extras
  • Distance from us
  • The serving time and how long we’re on site
  • Numbers

Most of the cost is the meat, the staff and the time on site. Slow roasting means we are on site for much of the day, which is built into the price.

What we need to know

To get the best quote, tell us:

  • Your menu choices
  • The date and time of the event
  • Allergies we should know about
  • A picture of the cooking area

Every wedding is quoted on its own, because numbers, menu, serving time and travel vary. Ask us for a quote for your wedding: use our quote form.

The menu, dish by dish

Spit-roast lamb

Lamb roasted on the spit is a lovely alternative to pork, and handy for anyone who doesn’t eat pork.

Crackling

Long, slow roasting turns the skin into crackling, and there is a piece for everyone who wants it.

What happens on the day

The secret is time: the meat cooks gently until it is tender while the skin crisps into crackling. It rests for a short while before carving. Golden-hour photos in Ashley at midsummer come around 9:25pm, which helps us time evening food around your photos. In late May, sunset is about 8:55pm, and in late September about 7:10pm.

  1. Tell us your date, venue and numbers.
  2. We confirm the date and the venue and send a price.
  3. We fit timings around your running order.
  4. The hog roasts through the afternoon; our chef carves on cue.
  5. We serve, tidy up and slip away.

How to prepare

  • Make sure the cooking area is away from walls, tents and trees
  • Have a covered area for eating in case of rain
  • Check there is a route to wheel the equipment in, without steps

For planners, venues and organisers

If you are booking for a workplace, ask your facilities team about outside caterers and gas cooking. We will fit in with site rules.

Many venues set rules for outside caterers, from approved lists to where a gas roaster can go. Check early, and pass on anything they need from us.

Looking after everyone

A little planning helps everyone eat safely. A few tips:

  • Confirm final numbers a week or so before
  • Give us vegetarian and vegan numbers
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests
  • Share the menu with your venue coordinator

Give us your venue coordinator’s details, so we can sort the cooking spot and timings with them.

China crockery can be added for the wedding breakfast, as an extra.

DIY versus a catered hog roast

You could roast a hog yourself, but it is a long day’s work, from early set-up to carving at the end. A catered hog roast means you can enjoy the day.

The hardest part of a DIY hog roast is timing: a whole hog takes hours, and it needs to be cooked through safely. If you’d rather not worry about it, let us cook.

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

If your venue does its own catering, check whether you can bring in a hog roast. There may be a fee. Compare like for like: the menu, sides, service time, staffing, crockery and travel. A cheaper headline price can leave things out.

Why Ashley hosts choose us

  • Our staff serve and clear
  • Sides to make it a full meal
  • Carved to order by a chef
  • Crackling for everyone who wants it
