Wedding hog roast in Burpham

How our wedding hog roast works in Burpham

The carving station becomes a focal point: people gather round as the chef carves. It feels like an occasion. Typical bookings include barn and farm weddings and intimate weddings, with halloumi skewers, new potatoes and rotisserie chicken.

For a smaller place like Burpham, a garden or farm wedding is frequently the dream. We need level ground, cover and a way in. The carving happens right in front of your guests, so the pork is hot and the crackling is crisp, and nothing sits in a hot cabinet.

Burpham weddings: local tips

Burpham is about 1 mile north-east of Guildford, in Surrey. We cover weddings in Burpham, along with the towns and villages around it. Burpham is one of 395 places in Surrey we cover.

If you are hoping for photos in Riverside Park, check whether the park needs permission for photography or gatherings. It is worth telling train travellers that London Road (Guildford) station is about 1.4 miles away. With the Surrey Hills National Landscape within about 5 miles, there are country venues, barns and gardens nearby. Ask your venue where a hog roast can cook.

Wherever your wedding is in GU4 and GU1, we can bring the roaster to you. That could mean a wedding in a garden on Clay Lane, Wells Road and London Road or the roads around them, wherever there is an outdoor spot for the roaster. Neighbouring places where we cater weddings include Merrow (1 mile south-east), Jacobs Well (1 mile north-west), Abbotswood (1 mile south-west), Guildford (1 mile south-west) and Bellfields (1 mile west). Within a short drive, we also cover Woking (4 miles north), Camberley (10 miles north-west), Epsom (13 miles north-east), Farnham (11 miles west), Ewell (14 miles north-east) and Egham (12 miles north).

A little further out are Guildford Castle (2 miles south-west) and Surrey Infantry Museum (1.4 miles east). Within reach you’ll find Silent Pool and Pewley Down.

  • Schools near Burpham include Burpham Foundation Primary School (less than half a mile north-west) and St Peter's Catholic School (0.8 miles south-east)

For planners, venues and organisers

If the event is on someone else’s land, the landowner needs to agree to cooking and vehicles. Get that agreed before booking.

Event organisers often ask caterers for paperwork such as a risk assessment. Tell us what you need and we will tell you what we can send.

A hog roast or other catering?

Compared with a cold evening buffet, hot rolls carved to order go down much better late at night. Published UK guides give a wide range for hog roast catering, from around £10 a head for a basic roll to £20 or more with sides and service. We quote every event individually, with everything listed.

Why book our hog roast in Burpham

  • Roasted on site, slowly, for hours
  • All the equipment comes with us
  • Salads, potatoes and coleslaw to go with it
  • Crackling for everyone who wants it

See our pricing and what a hog roast costs.

What a hog roast costs

The price comes down to:

  • How easy it is to reach the spot
  • The date and time of year
  • Crockery choices
  • The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken

Extras such as lamb, chicken, more sides or china crockery add to the cost, so we list each one in the quote. Keeping it simple keeps it affordable.

What to tell us

To check availability and the cooking area, we’ll need:

  • Which meats and sides you’d like
  • Roughly how many people
  • What the outdoor space is like
  • The date and time of the event

For a quote, send us a few details: the date and serving time, the venue or GU4 postcode, rough numbers and which extras you’d like. Send us your details through our quote form.

Catered or do it yourself?

We also hire out the hog roast machine for confident cooks. You cook and carve it yourself; we’ll explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

You could roast a hog yourself, but it is a long day’s work, from early set-up to carving at the end. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

How the day works

Service is quick once we start carving: our chef carves and our staff fill the rolls or plates, with the sides served alongside. Afterwards we clear the serving area and pack away. At midsummer, sunset in Burpham is about 9:20pm, so we can time the carving before or after your sunset photos. In late May, sunset is about 8:55pm, and in late September about 7:05pm.

  1. Choose the main meal, the evening food or both.
  2. You get a quote listing menu, staff and plates.
  3. We confirm the cooking spot and access with the venue.
  4. We arrive early and roast slowly on site.
  5. Our chef carves and the team serves and clears.

Before we arrive

  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking
  • Plan a step-free way in for the equipment
  • Keep the spot clear of buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches

Diets, allergies and alternatives

Standard rolls and stuffing contain gluten, so ask for gluten-free rolls if you need them. Other tips:

  • Remember that stuffing typically contains gluten
  • Note which guests do not eat pork, so we can add lamb, chicken or vegetarian options
  • Confirm final numbers a week or so before
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests

We are on site for much of the day, out of the way, by the cooking area.

Festoon lights by the carving station look lovely in evening photos; tell your venue or marquee supplier.

Before you choose a spot

The roaster needs the right spot, because it cooks outside for several hours, and a little planning goes a long way:

  • The venue’s agreement to a gas-fired roaster
  • Step-free access for our equipment
  • Serving inside the marquee or barn if allowed

Not sure about the cooking spot? Send us a photo and we’ll tell you honestly.

Burpham: your questions answered

Can you do a hog roast in Riverside Park?

Only if the landowner, generally the council, allows it. Ask them first.

Can you cater after a service at Church of the Holy Spirit?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is typically elsewhere. Send us the address.

Will guests be full?

With sides, it’s a full wedding breakfast; in the evening, rolls on their own work well.

What do you need from us on the day?

Only the space and a contact number. We bring the roaster, cover and serving kit.

Is a hog roast OK for a sit-down meal?

Of course: carved pork on plates with sides, with our staff serving.

Do you need power or water?

The roaster runs on gas, so we don’t need mains power to cook. A socket nearby is useful for lighting.

Do you clear up?

We pack everything away after service, and we take our equipment with us.

Can you do our evening wedding food?

It is one of our most popular wedding bookings. Hot pork rolls are perfect late in the evening.

  • Roasted slowly at your venue, outdoors and under cover
  • Carved to order by our chef, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Not just pork: spit-roast lamb, chicken and vegetarian choices
  • Staff to serve at the agreed time, then clear away
