Book a hog roast in Dean

Wedding hog roast in Dean, slow-roasted on site

Not every guest eats pork, so we plan for that: spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers and a vegan option. We don’t offer halal meat. Typical bookings include second-day get-togethers and rustic barn receptions, with salads, halloumi skewers and rotisserie chicken.

A wedding in a small place like Dean often means a field, a barn or a family garden. A hog roast is made for that: no kitchen, just level ground and cover. Let us know about access and ground. Plates come as standard, and china crockery is available on request, quoted separately.

A hog roast compared with other options

Next to a formal three-course meal, a hog roast is more relaxed and often better value. It still feels special. The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, along with distance and how easy the site is. There is no one-size price, so we quote each one individually.

What you get with us

  • Crackling for everyone who wants it
  • Slow-roasted at your venue, not reheated
  • Served at the time you choose
  • All the equipment comes with us

Read our prices page or our hog roast cost guide.

Diets, allergies and alternatives

Standard rolls and stuffing contain gluten, and gluten-free rolls are available on request. A few more tips:

  • Remember that stuffing typically contains gluten
  • Give us vegetarian and vegan numbers
  • Share the menu with your venue coordinator
  • Request gluten-free rolls if needed

We’ll be at the venue for most of the day, working quietly in the background.

Lamb alongside the pork gives guests a choice.

The menu, dish by dish

Crackling

Long, slow roasting turns the skin into crackling, and there’s a piece for everyone who wants it.

Salads, potatoes and coleslaw

Crunchy coleslaw suits roast pork, while salads and potatoes make a plated meal.

How the day works

The secret is time: hours of gentle heat make the pork soft and juicy while the skin turns into crackling. It rests for a short while before carving. At midsummer, sunset in Dean is about 9:20pm, which helps us time evening food around your photos. In late May, sunset is about 8:55pm, and in late September about 7:10pm.

  1. Share your date, venue, numbers and which meal you’d like.
  2. We check the venue and the cooking spot and send a price.
  3. We fit our timings around your running order and the venue.
  4. We cook through the day and serve right on cue.
  5. Afterwards we tidy our area and leave you to the party.

Getting ready for the day

  • Have a covered area for eating in case of rain
  • Give us final numbers a week or so before
  • Tell us about narrow gates or side passages

Prices and what affects them

A few things make the biggest difference to the price:

  • How many people are eating
  • Which meats and sides you choose
  • Travel to Dean
  • Access to the cooking area

UK price guides vary widely: roughly £10 a head for a simple roll, rising past £20 with more included. We quote every event individually, with everything listed.

What we need to know

Here’s what we will ask:

  • The date and when you’d like to eat
  • Anything the venue has asked for
  • Your menu choices
  • The venue or postcode

Send us the date, the address or SO32 postcode and rough numbers, along with your serving time. We’ll check the date and send a quote. Use our quote form.

Questions from Dean

We are gathering after a service at Church of St Peter: can you cater?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is typically elsewhere. Send us the address.

Do you come out to small places like Dean?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

What if it rains?

We cook under a gazebo, so rain isn’t a problem for the roast. Somewhere covered for people to eat helps.

Will our venue allow a hog roast?

Many do, but some only allow approved caterers or charge a fee. Check with them first, and we’ll liaise with them.

Who serves?

We carve and serve for you, and we clear up when service is finished.

Do we need to provide electricity?

No, the roast is cooked on gas. Tell us what’s available and we will plan around it.

Where does the hog roast go?

A flat, open spot outside, plus a step-free route to wheel the equipment in. Send us a photo if you are unsure.

Do you clear up?

Our staff clear the serving area, and we take our equipment with us.

  • Roasted on site for several hours, outdoors under cover
  • Carved by our chef into rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Lamb, chicken and vegetarian options alongside the pork
  • Staff to serve at the agreed time, then clear away
