Questions from Downe

Do you cater at venues in the Kent Downs National Landscape?

Yes. Some venues there have rules about cooking and vehicles, so check with yours. We will follow the site rules.

Which station is closest to Downe?

Chelsfield station, about 2.6 miles north-east of the centre.

Where will the roaster go at our wedding?

The roaster stays outdoors on level ground, and we agree the spot with your venue.

How much will it be?

Each event is priced on its own, depending on numbers, menu, timings and travel. Tell us about your wedding for a quote.

Do you clear up?

Our staff clear up after service, leaving the spot as we found it.

Do venues allow outside hog roasts?

It depends on the venue. Ask your venue early, and we will liaise with them.

Is there a non-pork option?

Add lamb, chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan option. We do not offer halal meat.

Can we have both pork and lamb?

Yes, spit-roast lamb can go alongside the pork.

Planning for dietary needs

Most people love a hog roast, but it is pork. Here’s how to cover everyone:

  • Remember that stuffing generally contains gluten
  • Give your coordinator the final menu
  • Note which guests do not eat pork, for lamb, chicken or a vegetarian choice
  • Give final numbers in good time

You won’t have to think about the food. We arrive hours before serving, roast through the day and carve on cue.

Some couples add lights around the serving area; tell your venue or marquee supplier.

The menu, dish by dish

Roast pork

The hog roasts slowly for hours, so the meat is tender and juicy, and our chef carves it to order.

Crackling

Good crackling needs time and heat, and a whole hog roasted slowly gets it just right.

Catered or do it yourself?

A barbecue is the other obvious choice, but someone ends up cooking in batches all afternoon. A hog roast cooks in one go and is carved for everyone.

DIY hire works best when someone in the family loves cooking. For weddings and bigger events, a catered roast is typically easier.

Prices and what affects them

Here’s what affects the price:

  • Site access
  • The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken
  • Crockery choices
  • Distance from us

Numbers make the biggest difference: bigger groups generally cost less per head, since much of the cost is fixed.

Details that help

Good details mean a good quote. Useful details:

  • Your menu choices
  • Rules from the venue or landowner
  • The venue or postcode
  • Rough numbers

To get a quote, just tell us the date, where the wedding is and roughly how many. A picture of the cooking area helps. Send us your details through our quote form.

Is a hog roast right for your wedding?

Compared with a cold evening buffet, hot carved pork beats sandwiches every time late at night. Travel matters for the price: travel is included in your quote, with any London charges listed. Tell us the exact address for an accurate figure.

Why book with us

  • All the equipment comes with us
  • Sides to make it a full meal
  • Carved by our chef in front of your guests
  • Served at the time you choose

Read our pricing or the cost guide.

How it works

The roaster cooks outdoors, under a gazebo on level ground, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches. We agree exactly where before the day. In Downe, midsummer sunset is about 9:20pm, and by late September it is nearer 7:05pm, so evening food is often carved in daylight in June and July. Later in the year, plan lighting: in December it’s dark by about 3:55pm.

  1. Tell us your date, venue and numbers.
  2. We check the venue’s rules and the date, then quote.
  3. We agree timings with your venue coordinator.
  4. The hog roasts through the afternoon; our chef carves on cue.
  5. Our staff serve and clear, then we leave quietly.

How to prepare

  • Choose someone to meet us on arrival
  • Give us final numbers a week or so before
  • Collect dietary needs and allergies in advance

How to get a price

When you are weighing up caterers, ask each one exactly what’s included. Ours lists it clearly. For a quote, send us your details through our quote form.
