Wedding hog roast in Elmfield, carved to order

Couples book a hog roast for the main meal, the evening or both. The hog roasts slowly at your venue through the afternoon, and our chef carves on cue. We are frequently asked to cater weddings in a marquee and garden weddings at home, with new potatoes, carved roast pork and halloumi skewers.

Weddings in a place like Elmfield often feel personal: a local church, then a marquee in a garden or field. We roast outside, well clear of the marquee. Tell us about access to the field or garden. Our staff serve and clear, so nobody in your party has to serve or tidying up afterwards.

How we price a hog roast for your wedding

Here’s what affects the price:

  • Menu choices and extras
  • The journey to the venue
  • How long the roast and service take
  • Plates or china

Distance is part of the price: travel is included in your quote. Give us the address for an accurate figure.

What to tell us

When you contact us, please mention:

  • Any venue rules
  • An estimate of numbers
  • Where the roaster could go, ideally with a photo
  • The address or postcode

Numbers not final yet? Give us your best estimate and we will quote on that, then confirm closer to the date. Send us your details through our quote form.

Planning for dietary needs

Most people love a hog roast, but it is pork. Some ways to look after everyone:

  • Give your coordinator the final menu
  • Request gluten-free rolls if needed
  • Count non-pork eaters, for lamb, chicken or a vegetarian choice
  • Remember that stuffing normally contains gluten

Give us your venue coordinator’s details, so we can sort the cooking spot and timings with them.

Ask for gluten-free rolls for any coeliac guests.

Organising for someone else?

Organisers may ask for documents such as a risk assessment or gas safety information. Tell us what you need and we’ll confirm what we can provide.

Some venues add a fee for outside caterers, so it is worth asking first. We will work with the venue on access and the cooking spot.

Before you choose a spot

We need room to cook safely and under cover. Things to check:

  • A short walk from the serving station to the guests
  • Power for lights in the evening
  • A level, open cooking spot outside the marquee or barn

Elmfield is a more remote spot, so tell us early and we will plan the journey.

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise before booking.

Catered or do it yourself?

You could go for a cold buffet, but hot, freshly carved roast pork is a different experience, especially outdoors.

If you’re confident and want to save on staff, DIY machine hire is an option. You do the roasting and carving; we will confirm what comes with it when you ask.

How the day works

The roaster cooks outdoors, on a level, open spot under cover, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches. We’ll agree the spot with you beforehand. In Elmfield, midsummer sunset is about 9:20pm, and by late September it is nearer 7:10pm, so evening food is frequently carved in daylight in June and July. For autumn and winter weddings, when it is dark by about 4:00pm in December, plan lighting at the carving station.

  1. Send us the date, venue and guest numbers.
  2. We confirm the date and the venue and send a price.
  3. We fit timings around your running order.
  4. The hog roasts through the afternoon; our chef carves on cue.
  5. We serve, tidy up and slip away.

How to prepare

  • Choose someone to meet us on arrival
  • Gather dietary requirements early
  • Plan a step-free way in for the equipment

Elmfield questions

Can you roast near the sea around Elmfield?

Yes, of course. We roast under cover and choose a sheltered spot where we can.

Which station is closest to Elmfield?

Ryde St Johns Road station, in Elmfield itself.

Can you cook inside a hall or marquee?

It cooks outside, under a gazebo, on a level spot. Serving indoors is normally fine if the venue is happy.

What if things run late?

We work back from when you want to eat, and a cooked roast can be held for a while if things run late.

When do you start roasting?

A whole hog roasts for several hours, which is why we arrive hours ahead. We work back from your serving time.

Can we just hire the roaster?

We do, if you’re happy to roast and carve yourself. Ask and we will talk you through it.

What should we sort out beforehand?

Just the agreed spot and a contact on the day. We bring the roaster, cover and serving kit.

Do we need to provide electricity?

Not to cook, because the roaster is gas-fired. Tell us what’s available and we will plan around it.

  • Roasted slowly at your venue, outdoors and under cover
  • Carved by our chef into rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Lamb, chicken and vegetarian options alongside the pork
  • Staff to serve at the agreed time, then clear away
