What a hog roast costs

A few things make the biggest difference to the price:

  • The serving time and how long we are on site
  • Site access
  • Distance from us
  • Crockery choices

Most of the cost is the meat, the staff and the time on site. Slow roasting means we are on site for much of the day, and the quote reflects that.

What to tell us

To get the best quote, tell us:

  • Anything the venue has asked for
  • Where the roaster could go, ideally with a photo
  • The venue or postcode
  • Allergies we should know about

Not sure how many to cater for? Give us your best estimate and we’ll quote on that, and you can confirm nearer the time. Fill in our quote form.

Wedding hog roast in Oakfield, slow-roasted on site

As a main meal, the hog roast is served on plates: carved pork with salads, new potatoes or roast potatoes, on china if you’d like. Popular choices include salads, new potatoes and carved roast pork, and typical bookings are for marquee weddings and intimate weddings.

For a smaller place like Oakfield, a garden or farm wedding is often the dream. We need a level spot and access. Timings are planned around your wedding, because the roast has to start hours before you eat.

Catered or do it yourself?

A barbecue is the other obvious choice, but someone has to stand at the grill all day. With a hog roast, one roast feeds everyone at once.

Timing is the tricky part of roasting your own: a whole hog takes hours, and it needs to be cooked through safely. If you’d rather not worry about it, let us cook.

How the day works

Rain doesn’t stop the roast, because we cook under cover. It’s worth planning a sheltered place for people to eat, too. Winter weddings in Oakfield are dark by about 4:00pm, so the route from the reception to the hog roast needs lighting, while a June wedding has light until about 9:20pm.

  1. You tell us your date, venue, numbers and whether it is the wedding breakfast, the evening or both.
  2. We check the venue and the cooking spot and send a price.
  3. Timings and the cooking spot are agreed with you and the venue coordinator.
  4. The hog roasts through the afternoon, and our chef carves on cue.
  5. Afterwards we tidy our area and leave you to the party.

How to prepare

  • Have a covered area for eating in case of rain
  • Confirm numbers ahead of the day
  • Make sure the cooking area is away from walls, tents and trees

FAQs for Oakfield

Can you cater after a service at St John's Church?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is usually elsewhere. Tell us where you will gather.

What about windy coastal sites?

Yes. Wind is something we plan for: a sheltered spot and secure cover.

Is crockery included?

Plates are included. China is available at an extra cost.

Can the hog roast be cooked indoors?

It cooks outside, under a gazebo, on a level spot. The food can be carried in and served indoors where the venue allows.

What about coeliacs?

Gluten-free rolls are available on request. Stuffing generally contains gluten, so check the allergen information.

Can a hog roast be our wedding breakfast?

It works well as a relaxed main meal, with alternatives for non-pork eaters.

Can you be flexible on serving time?

We work back from when you want to eat, and we can hold the roast for a while if the day runs behind.

Can you cater in Oakfield?

Yes. We cover London and the South East, including Oakfield and the Isle of Wight. Tell us the venue and we will quote.

Allergies and dietary needs

You will get allergen information for everything we serve. To make the most of it:

  • Halal isn’t offered, so plan separately if needed
  • Note which guests don’t eat pork, so we can add lamb, chicken or vegetarian options
  • Collect dietary needs with RSVPs
  • Give us vegetarian and vegan numbers

Evening food normally goes out an hour or two after the first dance, timed with you in advance.

Ask for gluten-free rolls for any coeliac guests.

For event organisers in Oakfield

Venues often have rules for outside caterers, from approved lists to where a gas roaster can go. Check early, and tell us what they ask for.

If the event is on someone else’s land, you will need the landowner’s permission for cooking and vehicles. Sort that first.

Where the roaster can go in Oakfield

The cooking area is the main thing to plan. A quick checklist:

  • A way in for the roaster
  • A short walk from the serving station to the guests
  • Power for lights in the evening

Oakfield is a more remote spot, so tell us early and we’ll plan the journey.

If you’re unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think before you book.

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

Next to other evening food, a hog roast serves a crowd quickly once carving starts. For larger numbers, a hog roast is normally good value, because one whole roast feeds plenty of people. Extras, china and longer service add to it.

Why book with us

  • Slow-roasted at your venue, not reheated
  • Sides to make it a full meal
  • Carved by our chef in front of your guests
  • Our staff serve and clear

Roast pork

Everything starts with the slow-roasted pork: carved in front of you, a mix of shoulder and leg, straight from the roaster.

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

Not everyone eats meat, so halloumi and vegetable skewers make sure they’re not left with just salad.

  • Cooked where you are, slowly, over several hours outdoors
  • Carved to order by our chef, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Not just pork: spit-roast lamb, chicken and vegetarian choices
  • Served when you’re ready, and we tidy the serving area afterwards
