Wedding hog roast in Hacton, slow-roasted on site

Evening wedding food has one job: feed hungry dancers. Rolls with roast pork and crackling are just the thing, and they’re easy to eat with a drink in hand. Whether it’s anniversary vow renewals and the main wedding meal, we can cook salads, spit-roast lamb and crackling for your guests.

In Hacton, venues set rules on outside caterers and gas cooking. A courtyard, garden or yard is ideal, and we will work through it together. We bring plates as standard, with china available if you’d like it, at an extra cost.

Hacton: your questions answered

Can you do a hog roast in Hornchurch Country Park?

Only if the landowner, usually the council, allows it. Check with them first.

Which station is closest to Hacton?

Upminster station, about 1.8 miles north-east of the centre.

Will our venue allow a hog roast?

Your venue decides: some welcome outside caterers, others don’t. We’ll talk to them about the cooking spot.

How much will it be?

Numbers, menu and travel decide the price. Tell us your date and we will send a price.

Can we add a second roast?

Of course: lamb and pork together give guests a choice.

Do you cover Hacton?

We do. Tell us the venue or postcode and we will check the date.

Will guests be full?

For the main meal, add sides such as salads and potatoes; for evening food, rolls are generally enough.

What if things run late?

We work back from when you want to eat, and a cooked roast can be held for a while if things run late.

What affects the price in Hacton

Every booking is priced individually, based on a few main things:

  • How easy it is to reach the spot
  • The serving time and how long we’re on site
  • The number of people
  • Season and day of the week

Weekday and off-season dates can be easier to book, and the menu you choose makes a difference too. Tell us your budget and we’ll suggest what works.

What we need to know

For a quick, accurate price, tell us:

  • Dietary requirements
  • Your date and serving time
  • Where the event is
  • What the outdoor space is like

We need a few details to quote: your date, your venue or postcode, how many people and any menu choices. Use our quote form.

How the day works

The roaster cooks outdoors, on a level, open spot under cover, well clear of walls, tents and trees. We agree exactly where before the day. At midsummer, sunset in Hacton is about 9:20pm, so we can time the carving before or after your sunset photos. Sunset is around 8:50pm in late May and 7:05pm in late September.

  1. You tell us your date, venue, numbers and whether it is the wedding breakfast, the evening or both.
  2. You get a check on the date and venue, and a quote.
  3. We agree arrival, cooking spot and serving times with you and your venue.
  4. We roast during the ceremony and drinks, then carve at the agreed time.
  5. We clear away once everyone has eaten.

Getting ready for the day

  • Tell us about narrow gates or side passages
  • Choose someone to meet us on arrival
  • Send final numbers in good time

Planners, venues and businesses

For events on land you do not own, such as a park or field, the landowner needs to agree to cooking and vehicles. Sort that first.

For workplace bookings, check with facilities about gas equipment and vehicle access. We work to the site’s rules.

A hog roast or other catering?

A common mix is a plated meal followed by an evening hog roast; others have the hog roast as the main event. Published UK guides give a wide range for hog roast catering, from around £10 a head for a basic roll to £20 or more with sides and service. We quote every event individually, with everything listed.

Why book with us

  • Planned to your running order
  • Rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Slow-roasted at your venue, not reheated
  • Choices for people who do not eat pork

About the food

Crackling

Crackling takes hours to get right, and a whole hog roasted slowly gets it just right.

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

Some guests will be vegetarian, so halloumi and vegetable skewers make sure they’re not left with just salad.

Allergies and dietary needs

Standard rolls and stuffing contain gluten, and gluten-free rolls are available on request. A few more tips:

  • If any guests need halal food, arrange it separately
  • Remember that stuffing normally contains gluten
  • Put a dietary question on the invitation
  • Confirm final numbers a week or so before

We will liaise with your venue coordinator, for access and timings.

Ask for gluten-free rolls for any coeliac guests.

Full catering or machine hire?

We also hire out the hog roast machine for confident cooks. You cook and carve it yourself; we will confirm what comes with it when you ask.

You could go for a cold buffet, but hot, freshly carved roast pork is a different experience, especially outdoors.

  • Cooked where you are, slowly, over several hours outdoors
  • Our chef carves the pork, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling on the side
  • Options beyond pork, including lamb, chicken and vegetarian dishes
  • Staff to serve at the agreed time, then clear away
