Choosing a hog roast caterer

Is a hog roast right for your wedding?

A common mix is a plated meal followed by an evening hog roast; others make the hog roast the main meal. For larger numbers, a hog roast is generally good value, because one whole roast feeds a lot of people. The menu, extras such as china and the serving time all affect the final price.

Why book with us

  • Salads, potatoes and coleslaw to go with it
  • Crackling for everyone who wants it
  • Carved by our chef in front of your guests
  • Self-contained: roaster, cover and serving kit

How the day works

Serving is straightforward: the chef carves and the team serves, with the sides served alongside. When everyone has eaten, we clear up and leave the spot tidy. Golden-hour photos in Hawridge at midsummer come around 9:25pm, so we can time the carving before or after your sunset photos. In late May, sunset is about 8:55pm, and in late September about 7:05pm.

Hawridge questions

Can you do a hog roast at a venue in the Chilterns National Landscape?

Yes. Some venues there have rules about cooking and vehicles, so check with yours. We’ll work to whatever the site needs.

Which station is closest to Hawridge?

The closest is Berkhamsted station, roughly 3.2 miles away.

Do we need extra food?

For the main meal, add sides such as salads and potatoes; for evening food, rolls are generally enough.

Do you do DIY hog roast hire?

DIY machine hire is available. We will confirm what comes with it and how to use it.

Is there a non-pork option?

There are lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options: spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan burger or sausage. We do not offer halal meat.

Will our venue allow a hog roast?

Check with the venue first: some welcome outside caterers, others don’t. We’ll talk to them about the cooking spot.

What if it rains?

The roaster is under cover, so a shower doesn’t stop us. Plan somewhere sheltered for eating.

Do you do evening food?

Yes. We’ll time it around your first dance and band.

DIY versus a catered hog roast

You could roast a hog yourself, but it is a long day’s work, from early set-up to carving at the end. A catered hog roast means you can enjoy the day.

We also hire out the hog roast machine for confident cooks. You cook and carve it yourself; we’ll explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

For event organisers in Hawridge

Booking for a club or group? One clear contact makes everything easier, especially on the day.

If the event is on someone else’s land, the landowner needs to agree to cooking and vehicles. Sort that first.

The menu, dish by dish

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

Vegetarians get halloumi and vegetable skewers, so they get something hot and satisfying too.

Spit-roast lamb

Lamb on the spit roasts gently for hours, and it’s carved the same way, frequently with mint sauce.

  • Cooked where you are, slowly, over several hours outdoors
  • Our chef carves the pork, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling on the side
  • Vegetarian and vegan choices, plus lamb or chicken if you like
  • Staff to serve at the agreed time, then clear away
