Wedding hog roast in Headington Hill, carved to order

A wedding hog roast can be the wedding breakfast, the evening food or both. We roast at the venue through the ceremony and drinks, and our chef carves on cue. We serve carved roast pork, halloumi skewers and new potatoes, and we’re regularly asked to cater barn and farm weddings and vow renewals and blessings.

In Headington Hill, a local ceremony and a marquee reception is a lovely, personal choice. We roast outside, well clear of the marquee. Let us know about access. We bring plates as standard, with china available if you’d like it, at an extra cost.

For planners, venues and organisers

Planning on behalf of a committee? A single point of contact keeps things simple, especially on the day.

Marquee hire companies frequently have rules about cooking near their tents, so let them know about the roaster. The roaster stays a safe distance from the marquee.

What we serve, dish by dish

Rolls and gluten-free rolls

A hog roast roll is designed to be eaten in the hand. Gluten-free rolls can be provided on request.

Crackling

Crackling is what people queue for: crisp, golden and full of flavour, straight off the hog.

Full catering or machine hire?

A barbecue is the other obvious choice, but someone ends up cooking in batches all afternoon. A hog roast cooks in one go and is carved for everyone.

Roasting a whole hog yourself is possible, but it takes hours of attention, from early set-up to carving at the end. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

A hog roast compared with other options

Compared with a cold evening buffet, hot carved pork beats sandwiches every time. A hog roast is often good value for a crowd, since one roast goes a long way. Extras, china and longer service add to it.

Why us?

  • Sides to make it a full meal
  • A clear quote with everything listed
  • Served at the time you choose
  • Crackling for everyone who wants it

How we price a hog roast for your wedding

Every booking is priced individually, and the price depends on a few things:

  • The serving time and how long we’re on site
  • Crockery choices
  • Season and day of the week
  • Numbers

Weekday and off-season dates can be easier to book, and the menu you choose makes a difference too. Ask us and we will suggest the best fit for your budget.

What to tell us

To check availability and the cooking area, we’ll need:

  • Which meats and sides you’d like
  • Anything the venue has asked for
  • Roughly how many people
  • Allergies we should know about

When you are weighing up caterers, check what each quote actually includes. We spell it out in ours. To get yours, fill in our quote form.

Questions from Headington Hill

Can you cater after a service at All Saints' Church?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is generally elsewhere. Tell us where you will gather.

Is Headington Hill close to London?

About 52 miles from central London, and we cover it as standard.

Can you roast in the rain?

We cook under a gazebo, so rain is not a problem for the roast. Somewhere covered for people to eat helps.

Do you offer gluten-free rolls?

We can supply gluten-free rolls on request. You’ll get allergen details for everything.

How much room do you need?

A flat, open spot outside, plus a step-free route to wheel the equipment in. Send us a picture if you are unsure.

Do venues allow outside hog roasts?

Check with the venue first: some welcome outside caterers, others don’t. We will sort the details with them.

Will there be enough to go round?

We plan quantities from the numbers you give us, and we will talk it through when we quote.

Is a hog roast enough for a wedding?

We will plan quantities from your numbers, and the quote lists everything.

The process

Slow roasting is the whole point: hours of gentle heat make the pork soft and juicy while the skin crisps into crackling. Then it rests briefly before our chef carves. For a summer wedding in Headington Hill, the sun sets at about 9:25pm in late June and about 7:10pm in late September, so evening food is frequently carved in daylight in June and July. For autumn and winter weddings, when it’s dark by about 3:55pm in December, plan lighting at the carving station.

  1. Choose the main meal, the evening food or both.
  2. We send a quote with the menu and staffing.
  3. The venue and we agree where the roaster goes.
  4. We set up and roast for hours.
  5. Our chef carves and the team serves and clears.

Planning for dietary needs

Rolls and stuffing typically contain gluten, and gluten-free rolls are available on request. A few more tips:

  • Pass numbers for vegetarians and vegans to us
  • Confirm final numbers a week or so before
  • Halal isn’t offered, so plan separately if needed
  • Give your coordinator the final menu

If speeches overrun or the band starts late, we adjust. Your coordinator can keep us posted.

Lamb alongside the pork gives guests a choice.

What the cooking area needs

We need room to cook safely and under cover. Before booking, check:

  • Permission for outside catering
  • Serving inside the marquee or barn if allowed
  • A route to wheel equipment to the spot

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise before booking.
