Wedding hog roast in Old Ford, carved to order

A slow roast suits a wedding day that runs late: a cooked roast holds for a while, so a long speech will not ruin the food. Popular choices include spit-roast lamb, salads and new potatoes, and we are regularly asked to cater anniversary vow renewals and second-day get-togethers.

In Old Ford, venues set rules on outside caterers and gas cooking. A courtyard, garden or yard is ideal, and we will agree the details with them. Our chef carves in front of your guests, so the pork is hot and the crackling is crisp, and nothing sits in a hot cabinet.

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

Compared with a barbecue, one roast feeds all your guests together without batches coming off a grill. Travel matters for the price: we include travel in the quote. Give us the address so the quote is accurate.

Why Old Ford hosts choose us

  • Slow-roasted at your venue, not reheated
  • Planned to your running order
  • Carved by our chef in front of your guests
  • Sides to make it a full meal

For planners, venues and organisers

If you’re planning an event on someone’s behalf, whether you’re a planner, a PA or on a committee, let us know who we’ll deal with on the day. We’ll keep you both updated.

For venues and planners, we can fit around your other suppliers, sharing timings and a site plan.

The process

We cook on a gas-fired roaster, so we don’t need mains power to cook; a nearby socket helps with lights if service runs into the evening. In Old Ford, midsummer sunset is about 9:20pm, and by late September it’s nearer 7:05pm, so evening food is often carved in daylight in June and July. For autumn and winter weddings, when it’s dark by about 3:55pm in December, plan lighting at the carving station.

  1. Tell us your date, venue and numbers.
  2. We confirm the date and the venue and send a price.
  3. We agree timings with your venue coordinator.
  4. We roast during the day, then carve at the agreed time.
  5. We serve, tidy up and slip away.

Before we arrive

  • Check there’s nothing overhead or close by that could catch the heat
  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking
  • Let us know about tight access

Lamb on the spit roasts gently for hours, and it is carved the same way.

Planning for dietary needs

Tell us about dietary needs early and we’ll help. Tips:

  • Halal is not offered, so plan separately if needed
  • Stuffing normally contains gluten
  • Count non-pork eaters, so we can add lamb, chicken or vegetarian options
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests

We serve and clear without fuss, so the party carries on around us.

Choose sides to make it a full meal.

Space, access and the venue

We need room to cook safely and under cover. Before booking, check:

  • A way in for the roaster
  • Power for lights in the evening
  • The venue’s agreement to a gas-fired roaster

As a London location, Old Ford is inside the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and access takes planning: let us know how we reach the cooking spot and where we can park.

Your questions about a hog roast for your wedding in Old Ford

We’re gathering after a service at St Paul Old Ford: can you cater?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is typically elsewhere. Send us the address.

Could you cook in Grove Hall Park?

Only if the landowner, typically the council, allows it. Ask them first.

Where does the hog roast go?

Enough level ground outdoors for the roaster and a serving table under cover, plus a step-free route to wheel the equipment in. A picture helps.

What happens in bad weather?

We cook under a gazebo, so rain is not a problem for the roast. A marquee, hall or barn for eating makes all the difference.

What about guests who don’t eat pork?

We can add lamb or chicken, plus halloumi skewers for vegetarians and a vegan burger or sausage. We don’t provide halal meat.

Do you come to Old Ford?

Yes. We cater across London and the South East, Old Ford and the rest of Greater London included. Send us the address for a quote.

Can you do our evening wedding food?

It is one of our most popular wedding bookings. Rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling go down well after dancing.

Can you cook inside a hall or marquee?

The roaster always stays outside, under cover, away from buildings and marquee walls. Serving inside is frequently possible, with the venue’s agreement.

Should I cook it myself?

Roasting a whole hog yourself is possible, but it takes hours of attention, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

Timing is the tricky part of roasting your own: a whole hog takes hours, and it needs to be cooked through safely. If that sounds stressful, choose the catered option.

  • Slow-roasted on site for hours, outdoors at your event
  • Freshly carved pork with crackling, stuffing and apple sauce
  • Vegetarian and vegan choices, plus lamb or chicken if you like
  • Served when you’re ready, and we tidy the serving area afterwards
