Choosing a hog roast caterer

Wedding hog roast in Three Mills, carved to order

A hog roast is made for marquee, barn and garden weddings near Three Mills. We cook outside, under cover, and the food is served in the marquee or barn. We serve crackling, halloumi skewers and new potatoes, and typical bookings are for the day after the wedding and garden weddings at home.

Couples in Three Mills often hold the reception at a local venue or at home. The roaster needs an outdoor spot under cover, away from the building, which many London venues can’t offer, so ask early. Our chef carves in front of your guests, so every roll gets hot pork and a piece of crackling, and nothing sits in a hot cabinet.

Prices and what affects them

Here’s what affects the price:

  • Distance from us
  • Access to the cooking area
  • Time on site
  • The date and time of year

Most of the cost is the meat, the staff and the time on site. A long, slow roast means an early start, which is built into the price.

Details that help

When you contact us, it helps to include:

  • Dietary requirements
  • The date and when you’d like to eat
  • Which meats and sides you’d like
  • Where the event is

When you’re weighing up caterers, check what each quote actually includes. We spell it out in ours. To get yours, send us your details through our quote form.

A closer look at the menu

Roast pork

Slow-roasted pork is the heart of the menu: carved thick or thin, as people like it, and served hot.

Rolls and gluten-free rolls

Rolls make a hog roast easy to eat anywhere. We can bring gluten-free rolls if you ask.

Planners, venues and businesses

Marquee suppliers usually set distances for cooking equipment, so tell them a hog roast is coming. We will keep the roaster well clear of the marquee.

If you’re a venue or event planner, we can fit around your other suppliers.

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

Compared with a three-course plated meal, a hog roast wedding breakfast is relaxed and typically costs less per head. It still feels special. When comparing prices, compare the same things: the menu, sides, service time, staffing, crockery and travel. The cheapest quote isn’t always the best value.

Why book with us

  • Choices for people who don’t eat pork
  • We bring everything to cook and serve
  • Staff to serve, so you don’t have to
  • Sides to make it a full meal

Three Mills questions

Could you cook in Bob's Park?

Only if the landowner, typically the council, allows it. Check with them first.

Can you cater after a service at St Mary's Church?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Food is generally served at the reception venue rather than the church. Tell us where you’ll gather.

Is a hog roast OK for a sit-down meal?

Of course: carved pork on plates with sides, with our staff serving.

Do you provide china?

We bring plates as standard. If you’d like china, ask and we’ll add it to the quote.

Can you cook inside the marquee?

Always outside, away from the marquee walls. We can serve inside the marquee if the supplier agrees.

What about guests who do not eat pork?

The menu has lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options. Halal meat isn’t something we offer.

What happens after service?

Our staff clear up after service, and leave the area tidy.

What if it rains?

Rain doesn’t stop the cooking. A marquee, hall or barn for eating makes all the difference.

The process

We cook on a gas-fired roaster, so cooking does not depend on mains power. In Three Mills, evening wedding food often coincides with dusk: about 9:20pm at midsummer, 8:50pm in late May and 7:05pm in late September. A few lights by the serving table help guests and photos alike.

  1. Share your date, venue, numbers and which meal you’d like.
  2. We check the venue’s rules and the date, then send a quote.
  3. We fit our timings around your running order and the venue.
  4. The hog roasts through the afternoon, and our chef carves on cue.
  5. We clear away once everyone has eaten.

Preparing for the day

  • Plan somewhere sheltered for people to eat if it rains
  • Choose someone to meet us on arrival
  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking

Looking after everyone

Most people love a hog roast, but it’s pork. Some ways to look after everyone:

  • If any guests need halal food, arrange it separately
  • Put a dietary question on the invitation
  • Stuffing normally contains gluten
  • Give final numbers in good time

We’ll liaise with your venue coordinator, so we can sort the cooking spot and timings with them.

Lamb alongside the pork gives guests a choice.

Before you choose a spot

A hog roast cooks outdoors for hours, so the spot matters, so a few things are worth checking:

  • A route to wheel equipment to the spot
  • Lighting for evening service
  • Permission for outside catering

As a London location, Three Mills is inside the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and access takes planning: tell us about side or rear access, steps and parking for our vehicle.

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise.
