Wedding hog roast in Paddock, slow-roasted on site

A wedding hog roast can be the wedding breakfast, the evening food or both. The hog roasts slowly at your venue through the afternoon, then carve at the time you’ve set. We are often asked to cater home weddings and marquee receptions, serving carved roast pork, rotisserie chicken and salads.

Rural weddings around Paddock have a magic of their own, and slow-roasted pork carved for guests adds to it. Plan a firm route in, especially if it rains. Timings are planned around your wedding, because the roast has to start hours before you eat.

Full catering or machine hire?

Timing is the tricky part of roasting your own: a whole hog takes hours, and it needs to be cooked through safely. If that sounds stressful, choose the catered option.

Roasting a whole hog yourself is possible, but it takes hours of attention, from early set-up to carving at the end. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

Where the roaster can go in Paddock

Planning the cooking spot is the key. A quick checklist:

  • Lighting for evening service
  • A safe distance from marquee walls, buildings and trees
  • Flat ground outside the reception for the roaster

Not sure about the cooking spot? Send us a photo and we will tell you honestly before booking.

FAQs for Paddock

We are gathering after a service at Church of St Cosmas and St Damian: can you cater?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is typically elsewhere. Send us the address.

How far is Paddock from London?

About 45 miles from central London.

What’s included?

The classic: pork in rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. Sides and extra meats are listed in your quote.

How much does a hog roast cost?

Each event is priced on its own, based on numbers, menu, service time and distance. Tell us about your wedding for a quote.

Do you clear up?

Our staff clear up after service, leaving the spot as we found it.

Who serves?

We carve and serve for you, and we clear up when service is finished.

Where do you cook at a marquee wedding?

Always outside, away from the marquee walls. Serving inside is fine where allowed.

Can you do gluten-free?

Ask for gluten-free rolls and we’ll bring them. You’ll get allergen details for everything.

Organising for someone else?

If you are planning an event on someone’s behalf, whether you’re a planner, a PA or on a committee, let us know who we’ll deal with on the day. We will keep everyone in the loop.

Venues often have rules for outside caterers, from approved lists to where a gas roaster can go. Ask early, and tell us what they ask for.

About the food

Rotisserie chicken

Golden rotisserie chicken can be served in a roll or on a plate.

Crackling

The skin crisps up over the hours of roasting, and there is a piece for everyone who wants it.

How we price a hog roast for your wedding

Every booking is priced individually, and the price depends on a few things:

  • Travel to Paddock
  • Site access
  • Numbers
  • How long the roast and service take

Numbers make the biggest difference: the price per head usually falls as numbers rise, because the roaster, staff and travel cost much the same either way.

Details that help

When you get in touch, it helps to include:

  • Where the roaster could go, ideally with a picture
  • An estimate of numbers
  • The date and time of the event
  • Allergies we should know about

To get a quote, just tell us the date, where the wedding is and roughly how many. A picture of where the roaster could go helps us check the space. Fill in our quote form.

Allergies and dietary needs

A hog roast is pork, so plan for anyone who does not eat it. Some ways to look after everyone:

  • If any guests need halal food, arrange it separately
  • Pass numbers for vegetarians and vegans to us
  • Give final numbers in good time
  • Note which guests don’t eat pork, so we can add lamb, chicken or vegetarian options

Our staff serve and clear quietly, so the party carries on around us.

Festoon lights by the carving station look lovely in evening photos.

What happens on the day

We arrive hours before you want to eat, because a whole hog takes hours to roast. Your guests will smell it long before they see it. At midsummer, sunset in Paddock is about 9:15pm, so we can time the carving before or after your sunset photos. Sunset is around 8:45pm in late May and 7:00pm in late September.

  1. Tell us your date, venue and numbers.
  2. We check the venue’s rules and the date, then quote.
  3. We agree timings with your venue coordinator.
  4. We roast during the day, then carve at the agreed time.
  5. We serve, tidy up and slip away.

Preparing for the day

  • Check there’s a route to wheel the equipment in, without steps
  • Confirm numbers ahead of the day
  • Think about shelter for your guests
