Slow-roasted pork in Pested

Pested: your questions answered

Can you cater after a service at Church of St Peter?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is usually elsewhere. Tell us where you’ll gather.

Do you cater at venues in the Kent Downs National Landscape?

Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules for caterers; ask your venue. We’ll work to whatever the site needs.

What do people get?

Rolls with roast pork, stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. You can add lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options, salads, coleslaw and potatoes.

Can you roast in the rain?

The roaster is under cover, so a shower doesn’t stop us. Your guests will want somewhere dry to eat.

Do you clear up?

Our staff clear up after service, leaving the spot as we found it.

Can the hog roast be cooked indoors?

Outside, always. The food can be carried in and served indoors where the venue allows.

What about guests who don’t eat pork?

The menu has lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options. We don’t provide halal meat.

Will there be enough to go round?

Quantities are based on your numbers, and we’ll confirm everything in writing.

Wedding hog roast in Pested, carved to order

The carving station becomes a focal point: guests gather, the chef carves and the crackling disappears fast. It’s food and a bit of theatre. We serve halloumi skewers, carved roast pork and rotisserie chicken, and we’re frequently booked for late-night wedding food and barn and farm weddings.

Near Pested, weddings are often in fields, barns or gardens. A hog roast is made for that: no kitchen, just level ground and cover. Let us know about access and ground. We bring plates as standard, and china crockery is available on request, quoted separately.

The process

Here’s how the day normally runs: we arrive, set up under cover and start roasting, the roast cooks gently through the day, and we carve and serve at the agreed time. In Pested, midsummer sunset is about 9:15pm, and by late September it’s nearer 7:00pm, so evening food is frequently carved in daylight in June and July. Later in the year, plan lighting: in December it is dark by about 3:50pm.

  1. We start with your date, venue, numbers and running order.
  2. We check the venue’s rules and the date, then send a quote.
  3. Timings and the cooking spot are agreed with you and the venue coordinator.
  4. We roast during the ceremony and drinks, then carve at the agreed time.
  5. Our staff clear the serving area and we leave quietly.

Before we arrive

  • Plan somewhere sheltered for people to eat if it rains
  • Let us know about tight access
  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking

Why choose a hog roast in Pested?

Compared with pizza or other evening vans, a hog roast serves a crowd quickly once carving starts. When comparing prices, compare the same things: the menu, sides, service time, staffing, crockery and travel. The cheapest quote is not always the best value.

Why book our hog roast in Pested

  • All the equipment comes with us
  • Crackling for everyone who wants it
  • Serving and clearing done for you
  • Carved to order by a chef

For event organisers in Pested

Marquee hire companies often have rules about cooking near their tents, so tell them a hog roast is coming. We’ll keep the roaster well clear of the marquee.

Organisers may ask for documents such as a risk assessment or gas safety information. Let us know what your event requires and we’ll tell you what we can send.

Before you choose a spot

A good cooking spot makes the day run smoothly. Ideally:

  • A short walk from the serving station to the guests
  • Clear space away from the marquee and any branches
  • Lighting for evening service

Not sure about the cooking spot? Send us a photo and we will tell you honestly before you book.

What affects the price in Pested

We work out each quote from:

  • How easy it is to reach the spot
  • The date and time of year
  • How long the roast and service take
  • Crockery choices

Numbers make the biggest difference: the price per head generally falls as numbers rise, because the roaster, staff and travel cost much the same either way.

Diets, allergies and alternatives

Most people love a hog roast, but it’s pork. Some ways to look after everyone:

  • If any guests need halal food, arrange it separately
  • Share the menu with your venue coordinator
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests
  • Note which guests don’t eat pork, for lamb, chicken or a vegetarian choice

For evening food, we carve as the dancing gets going, timed with you in advance.

Add spit-roast lamb for a second roast.

  • Roasted slowly at your venue, outdoors and under cover
  • Our chef carves the pork, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling on the side
  • Lamb, chicken and vegetarian options alongside the pork
  • Our team serves at your chosen time and clears up afterwards
