Wedding hog roast in Purley, slow-roasted on site

A hog roast gives your wedding a centrepiece: guests gather, the chef carves and the crackling disappears fast. It’s food and a bit of theatre. We’re often asked to cater the main wedding meal and relaxed, low-key weddings, with crackling, halloumi skewers and spit-roast lamb.

In Purley, venues set rules on outside caterers and gas cooking. A courtyard, garden or yard is ideal, and we’ll work through it together. Everything we need to roast, carve and serve comes with us, and we pack away and leave the area as we found it.

Looking after everyone

We give full allergen information for every dish. To help:

  • Request gluten-free rolls if needed
  • If any guests need halal food, arrange it separately
  • Count non-pork eaters, so we can add lamb, chicken or vegetarian options
  • Give final numbers in good time

We’ll liaise with your venue coordinator, for access and timings.

Choose sides to make it a full meal.

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

Compared with a three-course plated meal, a hog roast wedding breakfast is relaxed and usually costs less per head. It still feels special. Distance is part of the price: we include travel in the quote. Tell us the exact address so the quote is accurate.

What you get with us

  • Slow-roasted at your venue, not reheated
  • Carved by our chef in front of your guests
  • The classics: stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Our staff serve and clear

See our prices page and our hog roast cost guide.

How it works

Here’s how the day usually runs: we arrive, set up under cover and start roasting, the pork cooks slowly for hours, and we carve and serve at the agreed time. At midsummer, sunset in Purley is about 9:20pm, so we can time the carving before or after your sunset photos. In late May, sunset is about 8:50pm, and in late September about 7:05pm.

  1. Share your date, venue, numbers and which meal you’d like.
  2. We check the venue’s rules and the date, then send a quote.
  3. Timings and the cooking spot are agreed with you and the venue coordinator.
  4. The hog roasts through the afternoon, and our chef carves on cue.
  5. Afterwards we tidy our area and leave you to the party.

Before we arrive

  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking
  • Make sure we can wheel the roaster to the spot
  • Give us final numbers a week or so before

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

Vegetarians get halloumi and vegetable skewers, a hot, filling option of their own.

Roast pork

The hog roasts slowly for hours, so the meat is tender and juicy, and our chef carves it to order.

Full catering or machine hire?

Full catering or machine hire? Catered means we do everything: roasting, carving, serving and clearing. With hire only, you do the cooking yourself.

Roasting a whole hog yourself is possible, but it takes hours of attention, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

What if our house in Purley has no side access?

Often, if there’s a rear gate, a front garden or a yard we can use. Send us a picture and we will tell you honestly.

We’re gathering after a service at St Swithun's: can you cater?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Food is generally served at the reception venue rather than the church. Tell us where you will gather.

We’ll plan quantities from your numbers, and we will confirm it in writing.

Can you cook inside the marquee?

We cook outside, never inside the marquee, and we agree the spot with your venue.

The roast is chosen to suit how many you are feeding, so tell us your best estimate. The quote sets it out.
