Our hog roast hire in CR8

With hog roast hire, the cooking happens at your event, which means it is carved hot, with crisp crackling. Add lamb, chicken or vegetarian options if you like. Typical bookings include milestone birthdays and gatherings after a funeral, serving new potatoes, coleslaw and spit-roast lamb.

We arrive hours before you want to eat, because a whole hog takes hours to roast. Your guests will smell it long before they see it.

  1. First, tell us about your event.
  2. You get an availability check and a clear quote.
  3. Timings and the cooking area are agreed in advance.
  4. We roast slowly on site, then carve for your guests.
  5. We serve, tidy up and leave the spot clean.

Around Purley

You’ll find our roaster at events near Laleham Lea School, The Jolly Farmers pub and Thomas More Catholic School, among other places. You will also find Christ Church CofE Primary School (Purley) (0.5 miles north-east), Dollypers Hill (1.8 miles south) and St Swithun's (within half a mile south-west). There is a railway station in Purley itself: Purley station, handy for guests travelling by train. A little further out are St George's Walk (2.7 miles north) and County Borough of Croydon (2.6 miles north). Green spaces nearby include Duppas Hill and Foxley Wood.

Hog roast catering in CR8: local guide

From Croydon, Coulsdon and Purley to 2 villages and hamlets, bookings across CR8 range from town gardens to farmyards, and a hog roast works in all of them. Town bookings mean planning access; village bookings mean planning lanes and ground.

Purley: If you had Dollypers Hill in mind, ask the council or landowner first: we can’t simply set up a roaster in a public park. Coming by train? Purley station is in Purley itself. Because the roast takes hours, daylight is worth planning: in Purley, sunset is around 8:50pm in late May and 9:20pm in late June, while in December the light goes at about 3:55pm, so winter bookings need lighting from mid-afternoon.

Space, access and the venue

We need room to cook safely and under cover. Things to check:

  • Parking near the spot
  • Any venue rules sorted in advance
  • A level patch of lawn, patio or hardstanding

Should I cook it myself?

If you are confident and want to save on staff, DIY machine hire is an option. You do the roasting and carving; we will confirm what comes with it when you ask.

Timing is the tricky part of roasting your own: a whole hog takes hours, and it needs to be cooked through safely. If that sounds stressful, choose the catered option.

Looking after everyone

Tell us about dietary needs early and we’ll help. Some ideas:

  • We do not offer halal meat, so arrange that separately if it is needed
  • Put the menu on the invitation
  • Collect allergies with your RSVPs
  • Remember that stuffing generally contains gluten, so check the allergen information

Name someone to meet us, ideally not the host, so you can enjoy yourself.

Gluten-free rolls are available on request.

For planners, venues and organisers

If the event is on someone else’s land, you will need the landowner’s permission for cooking and vehicles. Get that agreed before booking.

Marquee hire companies often have rules about cooking near their tents, so let them know about the roaster. The roaster stays a safe distance from the marquee.

What we serve, dish by dish

Crackling

For many people, the crackling is the best bit: golden, crunchy and salty.

Rolls and gluten-free rolls

Rolls or plates? Rolls are quicker; plates suit a sit-down meal, with gluten-free rolls on request.

CR8 questions

Do you serve the crackling?

It is: the skin turns to crackling and everyone gets some.

Do we need our own staff?

Our chef carves and our staff serve, then clear the serving area afterwards.

Is it just pork?

Pork is the classic, and you can add spit-roast lamb or rotisserie chicken. There are vegetarian and vegan options as well.

What if it rains?

We cook under a gazebo, so rain is not a problem for the roast. Somewhere covered for people to eat helps.

Can you cater for vegetarians?

There are lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options: spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan burger or sausage. Please note we do not offer halal meat.

Is crockery included?

We supply plates as standard. You can upgrade to china if you prefer.

Do you offer gluten-free rolls?

We can supply gluten-free rolls on request. We’ll give you full allergen information for every dish.

  • Roasted slowly at your venue, outdoors and under cover
  • Our chef carves the pork, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling on the side
  • Options beyond pork, including lamb, chicken and vegetarian dishes
  • Our team serves at your chosen time and clears up afterwards
