Wedding hog roast near Rownhams

A hog roast gives your wedding a centrepiece: guests gather, the chef carves and the crackling disappears fast. It is food and a bit of theatre. For intimate weddings and late-night wedding food, we will put together a menu of crackling, new potatoes and spit-roast lamb and more.

Weddings in a place like Rownhams frequently feel personal: a local church, then a marquee in a garden or field. We roast outside, well clear of the marquee. Tell us about access to the field or garden. We bring the people to serve and clear up, so nobody in your party has to serve or tidying up afterwards.

For planners, venues and organisers

Planning on behalf of a committee? A single point of contact keeps things simple, especially on the day.

Many venues set rules for outside caterers, including where gas cooking is allowed. Check early, and tell us what they ask for.

Where the roaster can go in Rownhams

A hog roast cooks outdoors for hours, so the spot matters, and a little planning goes a long way:

  • Power for lights in the evening
  • A safe distance from marquee walls, buildings and trees
  • Approval from the venue or marquee supplier

If you are unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think.

Diets, allergies and alternatives

A hog roast is pork, so plan for anyone who does not eat it. Some ways to look after everyone:

  • Confirm final numbers a week or so before
  • Share the menu with your venue coordinator
  • Give us vegetarian and vegan numbers
  • Stuffing normally contains gluten

Give us your venue coordinator’s details, for access and timings.

Choose sides to make it a full meal.

Full catering or machine hire?

The hardest part of a DIY hog roast is timing: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If that sounds stressful, choose the catered option.

Full catering or machine hire? Catered means we do everything: roasting, carving, serving and clearing. With DIY hire, you do the work and save on staffing.

What we serve, dish by dish

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

Not everyone eats meat, and halloumi skewers give them a proper hot option.

Rolls and gluten-free rolls

Soft rolls hold the pork, stuffing and apple sauce together, easy to eat standing up. Ask for gluten-free rolls if you need them.

How the day works

Your timings come first. If things run late, we can hold the cooked roast for a while before carving, so tell us as soon as plans change. In Rownhams, midsummer sunset is about 9:25pm, and by late September it’s nearer 7:10pm, so evening food is frequently carved in daylight in June and July. For autumn and winter weddings, when it is dark by about 4:00pm in December, plan lighting at the carving station.

  1. Tell us whether it’s the wedding breakfast, the evening or both.
  2. We send a quote with the menu and staffing.
  3. We confirm the cooking spot and access with the venue.
  4. We arrive early and roast slowly on site.
  5. We carve and serve, then clear away.

Getting ready for the day

  • Ensure the cooking area is away from walls, tents and trees
  • Ask about allergies and dietary needs beforehand
  • Measure the narrowest gate or passage

Planning help

Rownhams: your questions answered

Do you cater at venues in the New Forest National Park?

Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules for caterers; ask your venue. We’ll work to whatever the site needs.

What’s the nearest station to Rownhams?

Redbridge station, about 2.1 miles south of the centre.

Is a hog roast enough for a wedding?

With sides, it’s a full wedding breakfast; for evening food, rolls are typically enough.

Do you provide china?

Plates come as standard. If you’d like china, ask and we’ll add it to the quote.

When should we book?

The earlier the better for popular dates. But do ask even at short notice: use our quote form.

What comes with the hog roast?

Rolls with roast pork, stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. Extras include lamb, chicken, halloumi skewers, a vegan option, salads and potatoes.

Can you cook inside a hall or marquee?

No, the roast is always cooked outdoors under cover, away from buildings and marquee walls. Serving inside is often possible, with the venue’s agreement.

Where does the hog roast go?

A flat, open spot outside, and a way to wheel everything in. A picture helps.
