A hog roast near Southford

Is a hog roast right for your wedding?

Compared with a cold evening buffet, hot rolls carved to order go down much better. Extras such as lamb, chicken, more sides or china crockery add to the cost, so each one is itemised. Keeping it simple keeps it affordable.

Why book our hog roast in Southford

  • Crackling for everyone who wants it
  • Served at the time you choose

About our wedding hog roast in Southford

Couples book a hog roast for the main meal, the evening or both. The hog roasts slowly at your venue through the afternoon, and our chef carves on cue. We are often asked to cater evening receptions and home weddings, with salads, new potatoes and halloumi skewers.

There’s something special about a country wedding near Southford, and a whole hog roasting through the afternoon adds to it. Plan a firm route in, especially if it rains. We bring the roaster, the cover and everything we need to cook and serve, and we pack away and leave the area as we found it.

What comes off the roaster

Rolls and gluten-free rolls

Soft rolls hold the pork, stuffing and apple sauce together, perfect for eating on the move. Gluten-free rolls are available on request.

Roast pork

Our chef carves the pork as it’s needed, so it stays hot and juicy right to the last roll.

Choosing a hog roast caterer

Looking after everyone

A little planning helps everyone eat safely. Here are a few tips:

  • Halal is not offered, so plan separately if needed
  • Give us vegetarian and vegan numbers
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests
  • Ask about dietary needs on your RSVP card

We’re on site for much of the day, working quietly in the background.

DIY versus a catered hog roast

DIY hire works best when someone in the family loves cooking. For bigger or more formal events, catering takes the pressure off.

Roasting a whole hog yourself is possible, but it takes hours of attention, from early set-up to carving at the end. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

Step by step

On the day, we set up the roaster on the agreed spot, put the cover up and start the roast. It then roasts slowly for several hours, timed so it’s ready when you want to eat. In Southford, midsummer sunset is about 9:20pm, and by late September it is nearer 7:10pm, so evening food is often carved in daylight in June and July. For autumn and winter weddings, when it is dark by about 4:00pm in December, plan lighting at the carving station.

  1. You tell us your date, venue, numbers and whether it is the wedding breakfast, the evening or both.
  2. We check the venue’s rules and the date, then send a quote.
  3. We fit our timings around your running order and the venue.
  4. The hog roasts through the afternoon, and our chef carves on cue.
  5. Afterwards we tidy our area and leave you to the party.

Southford questions

Can you roast near the sea around Southford?

Yes, of course. Wind is something we plan for: a sheltered spot and secure cover.

Do you come out to small places like Southford?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

How do we prepare?

The agreed cooking area, access for our equipment and someone to meet us. We bring everything else.

Can you be flexible on serving time?

We will be as flexible as we can. Give us a contact on the day and we will fit around changes.

Where will the roaster go at our wedding?

Outside, under its own cover, a safe distance from the marquee. We can serve inside the marquee if the supplier agrees.

Is there a non-pork option?

We can add lamb or chicken, plus halloumi skewers for vegetarians and a vegan burger or sausage. Halal meat is not something we offer.

Do you offer gluten-free rolls?

Ask for gluten-free rolls and we’ll bring them. You will get allergen details for everything.

How soon do you get booked up?

Summer Saturdays and December book up first. Quieter dates can often be booked at shorter notice. Send your date and we’ll check.

Working with your venue

Many venues set rules for outside caterers, from approved lists to where a gas roaster can go. Ask early, and tell us what they ask for.

If you are booking for a workplace, ask your facilities team about outside caterers and gas cooking. We work to the site’s rules.

  • Cooked where you are, slowly, over several hours outdoors
  • Freshly carved pork with crackling, stuffing and apple sauce
  • Options beyond pork, including lamb, chicken and vegetarian dishes
  • Served when you’re ready, and we tidy the serving area afterwards
