  • Menu choices and extras
  • The date and time of year
  • Access to the cooking area

Compare like for like: the menu, sides, service time, staffing, crockery and travel. A cheaper headline price can leave things out.

  • Rough numbers
  • Where the roaster could go, ideally with a photo
  • The date and time of the event

Busy weekends book up early, especially summer Saturdays and December Fridays. Tell us your date and we will check it: send us your details through our quote form.

Common questions in St Mary in the Marsh

Is St Mary in the Marsh too small for a hog roast?

No, we come to small places too. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

Could you cook in Romney Warren Country Park?

Only if the landowner, generally the council, allows it. Ask them first, and tell us what they say.

What if it rains?

Rain does not stop the cooking. Somewhere covered for people to eat helps.

Where will the roaster go at our wedding?

We cook outside, never inside the marquee, and we agree the spot with your venue.

Do you do evening food?

Yes. We’ll agree a serving time around your running order.

Do you do DIY hog roast hire?

DIY machine hire is available. We’ll explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

Can you do gluten-free?

Ask for gluten-free rolls and we will bring them. You will get allergen details for everything.

Who serves?

Our chef carves and our staff serve, and we clear up when service is finished.

The process

Expect a calm, organised set-up. We agree arrival and serving times in advance, set up where we’ve agreed, and get on with roasting and serving. In St Mary in the Marsh, evening wedding food frequently coincides with dusk: sunset is around 8:45pm in late May, 9:15pm at midsummer and 7:00pm in late September. Festoon lights by the carving station look lovely in the photos.

  1. Tell us your date, venue and numbers.
  2. We confirm the date and the venue and send a price.
  3. We agree timings with your venue coordinator.
  4. We roast during the day, then carve at the agreed time.
  5. We serve, tidy up and slip away.

Preparing for the day

  • Check there’s nothing overhead or close by that could catch the heat
  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking
  • Gather dietary requirements early

Is a hog roast right for your wedding?

If your venue does its own catering, check whether you can bring in a hog roast. Some venues charge a fee. Most of the cost is the meat, the staff and the time on site. Slow roasting means we’re on site for much of the day, which is built into the price.

What you get with us

Catered or do it yourself?

You could roast a hog yourself, but it’s a long day’s work, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.
