How our wedding hog roast works in Stockcross

After hours of dancing, guests are hungry. Rolls with roast pork and crackling are just the thing, and they’re easy to eat with a drink in hand. Typical bookings include anniversary vow renewals and relaxed, low-key weddings, with salads, halloumi skewers and crackling.

Rural weddings around Stockcross have a magic of their own, and a whole hog roasting through the afternoon adds to it. Plan firm ground and a route for our vehicle. Everything we need to roast, carve and serve comes with us, and we pack away and leave the area as we found it.

What we serve, dish by dish

Salads, potatoes and coleslaw

Salads, new potatoes, coleslaw and roast or jacket potatoes turn rolls into a full meal.

Stuffing and apple sauce

Sharp, sweet apple sauce and savoury sage and onion stuffing are the traditional pairing. Stuffing normally contains gluten.

Full catering or machine hire?

We also hire out the hog roast machine for confident cooks. You do the roasting and carving; we’ll confirm what comes with it when you ask.

Some hosts try a barbecue instead, but someone has to stand at the grill all day. With a hog roast, one roast feeds everyone at once.

Is a hog roast right for your wedding?

Some couples have a formal meal and a hog roast in the evening; others have the hog roast as the main event. Published UK guides give a wide range for hog roast catering, from around £10 a head for a basic roll to £20 or more with sides and service. Every event gets its own quote, with everything listed.

Why book with us

  • No surprises: everything in writing
  • Served at the time you choose
  • Serving and clearing done for you
  • Cooked on the day, low and slow

Prices and what affects them

There’s no fixed price list, since every event is different. What matters most:

  • Menu choices and extras
  • How many people are eating
  • Whether you want china
  • Site access

What you pay covers the meat, the chef and staff, and hours of roasting. A long, slow roast means an early start, which is built into the price.

Details that help

To get the best quote, send us:

  • Any dietary needs or allergies
  • Your date and serving time
  • Anything the venue has asked for
  • Rough numbers

We need a few details to quote: the date and serving time, the venue or RG20 postcode, rough numbers and which extras you’d like. Fill in our quote form.

How the day works

We cook on a gas-fired roaster, so cooking does not depend on mains power; a nearby socket helps with lights if service runs into the evening. In Stockcross, evening wedding food often coincides with dusk: sunset is around 8:55pm in late May, 9:25pm at midsummer and 7:10pm in late September. A few lights by the serving table help guests and photos alike.

  1. Tell us your date, venue and numbers.
  2. We check the venue’s rules and the date, then quote.
  3. We agree timings with your venue coordinator.
  4. We roast during the day, then carve at the agreed time.
  5. Our staff serve and clear, then we leave quietly.

Allergies and dietary needs

Tell us about dietary needs early and we will help. Some ideas:

  • Halal isn’t offered, so plan separately if needed
  • Remember that stuffing normally contains gluten, so check the allergen list
  • Give us vegetarian and vegan numbers
  • Count non-pork eaters, so we can add lamb, chicken or vegetarian options

We’ll liaise with your venue coordinator, for access and timings.

Salads, new potatoes and roast potatoes make a full wedding breakfast.

Stockcross: your questions answered

Is Stockcross close to London?

Roughly 55 miles from the centre of London.

Can you cater after a service at Church of St John?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is usually elsewhere. Send us the address.

What about coeliacs?

Gluten-free rolls are available on request. Stuffing usually contains gluten, so check the allergen information.

Is crockery included?

We supply plates as standard. China is available at an extra cost.

When do you start roasting?

Hours rather than minutes. We’ll confirm our arrival time when we quote.

Can we offer lamb too?

Lamb and chicken are both available alongside the hog.

Will there be enough to go round?

We size the roast to your numbers, so a good estimate matters. We’ll confirm the menu in the quote.

Can you roast in the rain?

The roaster is under cover, so a shower doesn’t stop us. Your guests will want somewhere dry to eat.

Planning the cooking spot

The roaster needs space, cover and a safe distance from anything that could catch the heat. Things to check:

  • Permission for outside catering
  • Power for lights in the evening
  • A safe distance from marquee walls, buildings and trees

If you are unsure, send a photo of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think.

Organising for someone else?

Booking for a club or group? One clear contact makes everything easier, particularly when timings shift.

Marquee hire companies often have rules about cooking near their tents, so tell them a hog roast is coming. We will keep the roaster well clear of the marquee.

  • Cooked where you are, slowly, over several hours outdoors
  • Carved to order by our chef, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Not just pork: spit-roast lamb, chicken and vegetarian choices
  • Our team serves at your chosen time and clears up afterwards
