Wedding hog roast for The Haven

How our wedding hog roast works in The Haven

The carving station becomes a focal point: guests gather, the chef carves and the crackling disappears fast. It feels like an occasion. We’re frequently asked to cater evening receptions and post-wedding gatherings, serving spit-roast lamb, carved roast pork and halloumi skewers.

A wedding in a small place like The Haven often means a field, a barn or a family garden. A hog roast is made for that: no kitchen, just level ground and cover. Tell us about lanes, gates and ground conditions. Everything is cooked on the day, at your venue, low and slow, for hours.

What affects the price in The Haven

Each booking is quoted on its own, based on a few main things:

  • Season and day of the week
  • Access to the cooking area
  • Numbers
  • Whether you want china

Compare like for like: the menu, sides, service time, staffing, crockery and travel. The cheapest quote isn’t always the best value.

Details that help

These are the details we need:

  • Roughly how many people
  • The venue or postcode
  • The date and time of the event
  • Any dietary needs or allergies

When you’re weighing up caterers, ask each one exactly what’s included. Ours lists it clearly. For a quote, send us your details through our quote form.

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

Next to a formal three-course meal, a hog roast wedding breakfast is relaxed and usually costs less per head. It still feels like a feast. What you pay covers the meat, the chef and staff, and hours of roasting. Slow roasting means we’re on site for much of the day, and the quote reflects that.

Why The Haven hosts choose us

  • Carved to order by a chef
  • No surprises: everything in writing
  • Crackling for everyone who wants it
  • Choices for people who don’t eat pork

The process

We cook on a gas-fired roaster, so we do not need mains power to cook, though a socket nearby is handy for lighting. Evening food at a The Haven wedding often goes out just as the light fades: sunset is around 8:50pm in late May, 9:20pm at midsummer and 7:05pm in late September. Festoon lights by the carving station look lovely in the photos.

  1. Tell us whether it’s the wedding breakfast, the evening or both.
  2. We send a quote with the menu and staffing.
  3. We confirm the cooking spot and access with the venue.
  4. We set up and roast for hours.
  5. Our chef carves and the team serves and clears.

Before we arrive

  • Make sure we can wheel the roaster to the spot
  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking
  • Confirm numbers ahead of the day
