Hog roast hire in RH14: what to expect

Hog roast hire takes the cooking off your hands. We get there early, put up the cover and roast for hours, then carve and serve at the time you choose. We’re frequently asked to cater parties at home and weddings and receptions, with salads, spit-roast lamb and halloumi skewers.

We roast under cover, so a shower will not spoil the food. It is worth planning a sheltered place for people to eat, too.

  1. You share the when, where and how many.
  2. We look at the cooking area and send a price.
  3. We arrive early, set up under cover and start roasting.
  4. The chef carves and the team fills rolls or plates.
  5. We pack away and leave you to it.

Planning a hog roast in RH14

There are 3 towns and 13 villages and hamlets in RH14, so whether your event is in Billingshurst, Wisborough Green and Loxwood or a quiet village, the approach is the same: a level outdoor spot, a way in and a plan.

Billingshurst: Churches such as Billingshurst Unitarian Chapel rarely have room for a roaster, but a hall or home close by generally does. Among the historic houses close to Billingshurst are Old Place Manor (4.9 miles south-west). Historic venues frequently limit cooking on site, so ask early if you’re booking one. Because the roast takes hours, daylight is worth planning: in Billingshurst, sunset is around 8:50pm in late May and 9:20pm in late June, but by late December it’s dark by about 3:55pm, so winter bookings need lighting from mid-afternoon.

For event organisers in RH14

Some venues add a fee for outside caterers, so check before booking. We will liaise with them on access and set-up.

Marquee suppliers generally set distances for cooking equipment, so tell them a hog roast is coming. We will keep the roaster well clear of the marquee.

A hog roast or other catering?

Next to a street-food van, a hog roast serves a lot of people from one roast, with no waiting for individual orders to cook.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Any travel or access charges
  • Which meats, sides and extras are included
  • Who carves and who serves
  • How long the roast takes and when they’ll arrive

Allergies and dietary needs

You’ll get allergen information for everything we serve. To make the most of it:

  • Find out who doesn’t eat pork, so we can bring lamb, chicken or vegetarian options
  • Collect allergies with your RSVPs
  • Put the menu on the invitation
  • Request gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests

We’ll agree a contact for the day, ideally not the host, so you can enjoy yourself.

A second roast, lamb or chicken, gives people a choice, priced in the quote.

Full catering or machine hire?

We also hire out the hog roast machine for confident cooks. You cook and carve it yourself; we’ll explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

A DIY hog roast suits a relaxed party where someone enjoys cooking. For weddings and bigger events, a catered roast is normally easier.

The menu, dish by dish

Roast pork

Slow-roasted pork is the heart of the menu: carved thick or thin, as people like it, and served hot.

Spit-roast lamb

Adding lamb gives people a choice of two roasts, which works well for larger groups.

FAQs for RH14

What about coeliacs?

Gluten-free rolls are available on request. Ask for the allergen list, as stuffing normally contains gluten.

Do you provide china?

We bring plates as standard. China crockery is available on request and quoted separately.

What do you need from us on the day?

Only the space and a contact number. We bring the roaster, cover and serving kit.

What about guests who don’t eat pork?

Add lamb, chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan option. We don’t offer halal meat.

When should we book?

Summer Saturdays and December book up first. Quieter dates can frequently be booked at shorter notice. Ask and we’ll check.

Can you be flexible on serving time?

We will be as flexible as we can. Keep us posted on the day and we’ll fit around changes.

Does the roaster have to be outside?

Outside, always. Serving indoors is normally fine if the venue is happy.

  • Roasted slowly at your venue, outdoors and under cover
  • Freshly carved pork with crackling, stuffing and apple sauce
  • Vegetarian and vegan choices, plus lamb or chicken if you like
  • Served when you’re ready, and we tidy the serving area afterwards
