Wedding hog roast for Upton

Is a hog roast right for your wedding?

Compared with a barbecue, a hog roast feeds everyone at once from one roast. A hog roast is frequently good value for a crowd, because one whole roast feeds plenty of people. The menu, extras such as china and the serving time all affect the final price.

Why us?

  • A choice of salads and potatoes
  • Planned to your running order
  • An itemised quote
  • Crackling for everyone who wants it

Wedding hog roast in Upton, carved to order

Wedding timings shift, and a slow roast copes well: a cooked roast holds for a while, so the food copes with a delayed running order. Typical bookings include weddings in a family garden and late-night wedding food, with new potatoes, halloumi skewers and salads.

Couples in Upton often hold the reception at a local venue or at home. We need an outdoor cooking area clear of the venue, which many London venues can’t offer, so ask early. Your quote spells out what’s included: the date, the serving time, the menu and the plates, with no surprises on the day.

Catered or do it yourself?

We also hire out the hog roast machine for confident cooks. You do the roasting and carving; we will confirm what comes with it when you ask.

DIY hire works best when someone in the family loves cooking. For bigger or more formal events, catering takes the pressure off.

Before you choose a spot

A hog roast cooks outdoors for hours, so the spot matters, and a little planning goes a long way:

  • The venue’s agreement to a gas-fired roaster
  • A route to wheel equipment to the spot
  • A level spot near, but not too near, the marquee

As a London location, Upton is inside the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and access takes planning: let us know how we reach the cooking spot and where we can park.

If you’re unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think.

How we price a hog roast for your wedding

A few things make the biggest difference to the price:

  • Whether you want china
  • Season and day of the week
  • Which meats and sides you choose
  • Numbers

Extras such as lamb, chicken, more sides or china crockery add to the cost, so we list each one in the quote. A simple menu keeps the cost down.

What we need to know

To get the best quote, tell us:

  • Your date and serving time
  • Your menu choices
  • The address or postcode
  • Rules from the venue or landowner

Planning ahead? Popular dates fill up early, so ask early for summer Saturdays and December. Tell us your date and we will check it: send us your details through our quote form.

Planning for dietary needs

You will get allergen information for everything we serve. To help:

  • Note which guests do not eat pork, so we can add lamb, chicken or vegetarian options
  • Give us vegetarian and vegan numbers
  • Remember that stuffing usually contains gluten
  • Give your coordinator the final menu

Our staff serve and clear quietly, and leave you to celebrate.

Add spit-roast lamb for a second roast.

Working with your venue

If you’re a venue or event planner, we’re happy to work alongside your team, sharing timings and a site plan.

If you’re booking for a workplace, ask your facilities team about outside caterers and gas cooking. We’ll fit in with site rules.

What happens on the day

When we arrive, we set up the roaster on the agreed spot, put the cover up and start the roast. It then roasts slowly for several hours, timed so it is ready when you want to eat. Golden-hour photos in Upton at midsummer come around 9:20pm, so we can time the carving before or after your sunset photos. In late May, sunset is about 8:50pm, and in late September about 7:05pm.

  1. Send us the date, venue and guest numbers.
  2. We check the venue’s rules and the date, then quote.
  3. We fit timings around your running order.
  4. We roast during the day, then carve at the agreed time.
  5. Our staff serve and clear, then we leave quietly.

How to prepare

  • Think about shelter for your guests
  • Check there’s a route to wheel the equipment in, without steps
  • Send final numbers in good time

The menu, dish by dish

Salads, potatoes and coleslaw

Salads, new potatoes, coleslaw and roast or jacket potatoes turn rolls into a full meal, especially at a sit-down event.

Spit-roast lamb

Lamb on the spit roasts gently for hours, and it’s carved the same way.

Upton: your questions answered

We are gathering after a service at Trinity Baptist Church: can you cater?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is typically elsewhere. Send us the address.

Can you do a hog roast in Danson Park?

Only if the landowner, generally the council, allows it. Check with them first.

Can you be flexible on serving time?

We work back from when you want to eat, and we can hold the roast for a while if the day runs behind.

How long does the roast need?

A whole hog roasts for several hours, which is why we arrive hours ahead. We plan the timings from when you want to eat.

What if it rains?

We cook under a gazebo, so rain isn’t a problem for the roast. Somewhere covered for people to eat helps.

Do you need power or water?

The roaster runs on gas, so we do not need mains power to cook. Power can help with lighting after dark.

What comes with the hog roast?

Rolls with roast pork, stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. You can add lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options, salads, coleslaw and potatoes.

Can you cater for vegetarians?

We can add lamb or chicken, plus halloumi skewers for vegetarians and a vegan burger or sausage. Halal meat isn’t something we offer.

  • Roasted slowly at your venue, outdoors and under cover
  • Freshly carved pork with crackling, stuffing and apple sauce
  • Vegetarian and vegan choices, plus lamb or chicken if you like
  • Served by our staff at the time you choose, then cleared away
