Weavers Down questions

Can you do a hog roast at a venue in the Surrey Hills National Landscape?

Yes. Some venues there have rules about cooking and vehicles, so check with yours. We will follow the site rules.

Do you come out to small places like Weavers Down?

No, we come to small places too. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

Can the hog roast be cooked indoors?

It cooks outside, under a gazebo, on a level spot. Serving indoors is usually fine if the venue is happy.

Do venues allow outside hog roasts?

Check with the venue first: rules vary. We will talk to them about the cooking spot.

Will there be enough to go round?

We plan quantities from the numbers you give us, and we’ll confirm everything in writing.

Can we offer lamb too?

Lamb and chicken are both available alongside the hog.

Do you do evening food?

Of course. We will agree a serving time around your running order.

Can we just hire the roaster?

We do, if you are happy to roast and carve yourself. We will explain the details with your quote.

The process

Here’s how the day typically runs: the roaster goes up and the hog goes on, the roast cooks gently through the day, and we carve and serve at the agreed time. At a December wedding in Weavers Down, it’s dark by about 4:00pm, so plan a lit path from the party to the food, while a June wedding has light until about 9:20pm.

  1. Send us the date, venue and guest numbers.
  2. We confirm the date and the venue and send a price.
  3. We agree timings with your venue coordinator.
  4. We roast during the day, then carve at the agreed time.
  5. Our staff serve and clear, then we leave quietly.

Getting ready for the day

  • Tell us about narrow gates or side passages
  • Plan a step-free way in for the equipment
  • Send final numbers in good time

Is a hog roast right for your wedding?

A common mix is a plated meal followed by an evening hog roast; others make the hog roast the main meal. Midweek and quieter months are often easier to book, and the menu you choose makes a difference too. Tell us your budget and we’ll suggest what works.

DIY versus a catered hog roast

Full catering or machine hire? Catered means we do everything: roasting, carving, serving and clearing. With hire only, you do the cooking yourself.

We also hire out the hog roast machine for confident cooks. You cook and carve it yourself; we’ll confirm what comes with it when you ask.

For planners, venues and organisers

If you are organising for someone else, whether you’re a planner, a PA or on a committee, let us know who we’ll deal with on the day. We will keep you both updated.

Some venues charge a fee if you bring in your own caterer, so it’s worth asking first. We’ll liaise with them on access and set-up.
