FAQs for Weavers Down
Is Weavers Down too small for a hog roast?
Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.
Is Weavers Down close to London?
About 43 miles from central London, and we cover it as standard.
Can you roast in the rain?
We cook under a gazebo, so rain is not a problem for the roast. A marquee, hall or barn for eating makes all the difference.
Do you bring plates?
We supply plates as standard. China is available at an extra cost.
Do you clear up?
We clear the serving area and pack away, leaving the spot as we found it.
How long does the roast need?
Several hours, depending on the size and the weather, so we arrive well before you want to eat. We work back from your serving time.
Can the hog roast be cooked indoors?
Outside, always. Serving indoors is generally fine if the venue is happy.
How much will it be?
Numbers, menu and travel decide the price. Send us the details and we’ll quote.
Looking after everyone
A hog roast is pork, so plan for anyone who does not eat it. Here’s how to cover everyone:
- Put the allergen list where people can see it
- Ask staff about dietary needs in advance
- Halal isn’t offered, so arrange it separately if needed
- Count anyone who does not eat pork, so we can bring chicken, lamb or vegetarian options
We’ll sign in and follow site rules.
China crockery is available for client events.
Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet
Compared with a formal plated lunch, a hog roast is relaxed and typically better value. A hog roast is frequently good value for a crowd, since one roast goes a long way. The menu, extras such as china and the serving time all affect the final price.

The process
We cook on a gas-fired roaster, so we do not need mains power to cook; a nearby socket helps with lights if service runs into the evening. In Weavers Down, summer evenings stay light until about 9:20pm, so an after-work hog roast works well in summer. In late September, the light goes at about 7:05pm.
