Film set catering in Appleshaw, slow-roasted on site

Crews in Appleshaw work long days, and lunch needs to be hot and on time. A hog roast suits a unit base: it roasts through the morning and is carved fast when lunch is called. We’re often asked to cater wrap parties and location days, serving spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken and a vegan option.

Near Appleshaw, crews may be miles from anywhere to eat, so hot food at base is a big help. The hog is roasted on site at your shoot, low and slow, for hours, then carved fresh for your crew.

Appleshaw: your questions answered

What’s the nearest station to Appleshaw?

The closest is Andover station, roughly 3.4 miles away.

Is Appleshaw too small for a hog roast?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

When should we book?

The earlier the better for popular dates. But it is always worth asking: fill in our quote form.

Can you cater for vegetarians?

There are lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options: spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan burger or sausage. We do not offer halal meat.

Can you work to the call sheet?

We work to your schedule, holding the roast if lunch moves.

What do you need from us on the day?

Only the space and a contact number. Everything for roasting and serving comes with us.

Do you have documents for locations?

Every production is different; share your list and we will respond.

What about a wrap party?

Of course. Send us the details.

How it works

On the day, we position the roaster under cover and get the hog cooking. It then roasts slowly for several hours, timed so it is ready when you want to eat. On a winter shoot near Appleshaw, the light goes by about 4:00pm, so the unit base needs lighting for late service. In summer, light lasts until about 9:25pm.

  1. Share the location details.
  2. We agree our position with locations.
  3. We cook at base.
  4. Service is quick.
  5. We tidy up and go.

How to prepare

  • Think about shelter for your crew
  • Check there is a route to wheel the equipment in, without steps
  • Measure the narrowest gate or passage

Prices and what affects them

Each price is built from:

  • Whether you want china
  • Which meats and sides you choose
  • How easy it is to reach the spot
  • Time on site

Travel matters for the price: we include travel in the quote. Give us the address so the quote is accurate.

What we need to know

To get the best quote, tell us:

  • Which meats and sides you’d like
  • The date and when you’d like to eat
  • Allergies we should know about
  • Any venue rules

The quickest way to get a price is to tell us the date, where the shoot is and roughly how many. A picture of where the roaster could go helps us check the space. Send us your details through our quote form.

Space, access and the venue

The roaster needs space, cover and a safe distance from anything that could catch the heat. Things to check:

  • Vehicle access to base
  • Flat ground at the unit base
  • A safe distance from kit

If you’re unsure, send a photo of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think before booking.

What we serve, dish by dish

Rotisserie chicken

Rotisserie chicken is a simple, popular alternative to pork, turned until the skin is golden.

Roast pork

We carve as we serve, so it stays hot and juicy right to the last roll.

  • Cooked where you are, slowly, over several hours outdoors
  • Our chef carves the pork, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling on the side
  • Not just pork: spit-roast lamb, chicken and vegetarian choices
  • Served by our staff at the time you choose, then cleared away
