Slow-roasted pork in Frithend

How our film set catering works in Frithend

Schedules move, and a slow roast copes. Give us a contact on the day and we will adjust. On the menu are salads, spit-roast lamb and a vegan option, and we’re regularly asked to cater period drama shoots and shoots on location.

Near Frithend, crews may be miles from anywhere to eat, so lunch at base matters. Timings are planned around your shoot, because the roast has to start hours before you eat.

Working with your venue

If you’re booking for a workplace, check with facilities about gas equipment and vehicle access. We’ll fit in with site rules.

If you are a venue or event planner, we are happy to work alongside your team.

What a hog roast costs

Every booking is priced individually, based on a few main things:

  • Distance from us
  • The number of people
  • The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken
  • Crockery choices

UK price guides vary widely: roughly £10 a head for a simple roll, rising past £20 with more included. Every event gets its own quote, so you know exactly what you are paying for.

Details that help

To check availability and the cooking area, tell us:

  • Which meats and sides you’d like
  • Anything the venue has asked for
  • Where the event is
  • Your date and serving time

We price every booking individually, because numbers, menu, serving time and travel vary. Ask us for a quote for your shoot: use our quote form.

Looking after everyone

Allergies and dietary needs are easy to manage if we know in advance. Tips:

  • Give us vegetarian and vegan numbers
  • Share the allergen list with the crew
  • Remember stuffing normally contains gluten
  • Count crew needing an alternative

A cooked roast can wait; just let us know.

Gluten-free rolls are available on request.

Planning the cooking spot

Planning the cooking spot is the key. Check these:

  • One contact for the day
  • Approval from locations
  • Flat ground at the unit base

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise before you book.

From the roaster

  • Salads
  • Rotisserie chicken
  • Vegan option (Ve)
  • Hog roast rolls
  • Stuffing and apple sauce
  • Spit-roast lamb
  • New potatoes
  • Halloumi skewers (V)

How it works

When we arrive, we position the roaster under cover and get the hog cooking. From there it cooks low and slow for hours, timed so it is ready when you want to eat. In December, daylight in Frithend ends around 4:00pm, so the unit base needs lighting for late service. In summer, light lasts until about 9:20pm.

  1. Production sends us the location and call times.
  2. We check access to base and quote.
  3. The roast starts early.
  4. We serve when lunch is called.
  5. We clear our spot.

Preparing for the day

  • Send final numbers in good time
  • Have a covered area for eating in case of rain
  • Collect dietary needs and allergies in advance
