Film set catering in Ower

About our film set catering in Ower

Some locations near Ower are a long way from food, so a hog roast at base keeps the crew fed. Popular choices include salads, spit-roast lamb and new potatoes, and we are often booked for location shoots and long days on set.

Near Ower, crews may be miles from anywhere to eat, so hot food at base is a big help. Everything we need to roast, carve and serve comes with us, and we pack away and leave the area as we found it.

Prices and what affects them

Your quote depends on:

  • Whether you want china
  • Access to the cooking area
  • Travel to Ower
  • Menu choices and extras

Compare like for like: menu, sides, serving time, staff, plates and travel. The cheapest quote is not always the best value.

What to tell us

Here’s what we’ll ask:

  • The address or postcode
  • Any extras, such as lamb, chicken or china
  • Where the roaster could go, ideally with a photo
  • Any venue rules

Busy weekends book up early, especially summer Saturdays and December Fridays. Send us your date for a quote: fill in our quote form.

Planners, venues and businesses

Booking for a club or group? One clear contact makes everything easier, especially on the day.

Many venues set rules for outside caterers, from approved lists to where a gas roaster can go. Ask early, and tell us what they ask for.

Ower: your questions answered

Is Ower too small for a hog roast?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

Do you cater at venues in the New Forest National Park?

Yes. Some venues there have rules about cooking and vehicles, so check with yours. We’ll work to whatever the site needs.

What do people get?

The classic: pork in rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. Sides and extra meats are listed in your quote.

Does the roaster have to be outside?

Outside, always. Serving indoors is generally fine if the venue is happy.

How much room do you need?

A flat, open spot outside, plus a step-free route to wheel the equipment in. A picture helps.

Do we need to provide electricity?

No, the roast is cooked on gas. Tell us what’s available and we will plan around it.

Where do you set up on a shoot?

At base, on level ground. We will agree it with your location manager.

What happens in bad weather?

Rain does not stop the cooking. Somewhere covered for people to eat helps.

A hog roast compared with other options

Compared with a barbecue, one roast serves everyone together. The main driver is numbers: the price per head generally falls as numbers rise, since much of the cost is fixed.

Why us?

  • Crackling for everyone who wants it
  • Self-contained: roaster, cover and serving kit
  • Our staff serve and clear
  • Salads, potatoes and coleslaw to go with it

Take a look at our pricing and the cost guide.

Planning for dietary needs

A little planning helps everyone eat safely. Here are a few tips:

  • Give us vegetarian and vegan numbers
  • Request gluten-free rolls
  • Tell us who doesn’t eat pork
  • Ask the production office for dietary needs

We pack away straight after service.

What happens on the day

A hog roast is always cooked outside, on a level, open spot under cover, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches. We will agree the spot with you beforehand. On a winter shoot near Ower, the light goes by about 4:00pm, so a late lunch or wrap at base needs lighting. Summer shoots have daylight until about 9:25pm.

  1. Production sends us the location and call times.
  2. We check access to base and quote.
  3. We set up at base and roast through the morning.
  4. We carve fast on the lunch call.
  5. We clear our spot.

Preparing for the day

  • Ensure the cooking area is away from walls, tents and trees
  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking
  • Ask about allergies and dietary needs beforehand
