How our film set catering works in South Town

There are options for crew who don’t eat pork, and we provide allergen information for every dish. We are frequently asked to cater long days on set and commercials and music videos, with salads, halloumi skewers and rotisserie chicken.

Near South Town, check tracks and ground with locations before the day. Timings are planned around your shoot, because the roast has to start hours before you eat, so the food is ready at the right moment.

Planners, venues and businesses

Marquee hire companies frequently have rules about cooking near their tents, so let them know about the roaster. The roaster stays a safe distance from the marquee.

If you’re booking for a workplace, check with facilities about gas equipment and vehicle access. We’ll fit in with site rules.

Planning the cooking spot

Most outdoor spaces can work if a few things are right. Here’s what helps:

  • Clearance from trucks, kit and trees
  • A covered eating area
  • A named contact at base

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise before you book.

  • Vegan option (Ve)
  • Rotisserie chicken
  • Salads
  • Stuffing and apple sauce

How we price a hog roast for the crew

Your quote depends on:

  • The serving time and how long we’re on site
  • Site access
  • The date and time of year
  • Crockery choices

UK price guides vary widely: roughly £10 a head for a simple roll, rising past £20 with more included. Every event gets its own quote, with everything listed.

Details that help

These are the details we need:

  • Rough numbers
  • Allergies we should know about
  • Your menu choices
  • A photo of the cooking area

Not sure how many to cater for? A rough figure is fine for a first quote, and you can confirm nearer the time. Fill in our quote form.

Allergies and dietary needs

Not everyone eats pork, so it’s worth adding an alternative. A few pointers:

  • Halal is not offered
  • Tell us who doesn’t eat pork
  • Post allergen details at base
  • Tell us about vegetarians and vegans

We serve quickly on the call.

Gluten-free rolls are available on request.

A hog roast or other catering?

Next to grilling to order, carving is quicker for big numbers. Numbers make the biggest difference: the price per head normally falls as numbers rise, since much of the cost is fixed.

Why book with us

  • All the equipment comes with us
  • Carved by our chef in front of your crew
  • Cooked on the day, low and slow
  • Our staff serve and clear

Step by step

Carving is part of the show: our chef carves the pork in front of the queue, and the crackling is shared out so everyone gets some. In December, daylight in South Town ends around 4:00pm, so a late lunch or wrap at base needs lighting. Summer shoots have daylight until about 9:25pm.

  1. Production sends us the location and call times.
  2. We confirm access and send a price.
  3. The roast starts early.
  4. We serve when lunch is called.
  5. We pack away straight after.

How to prepare

  • Ensure the cooking area is away from walls, tents and trees
  • Let us know about tight access
  • Make sure we can wheel the roaster to the spot
