How our funeral wake catering works in Nine Elms

A wake in Nine Elms is a chance to gather, talk and share a warm meal. Roast pork in a roll or on a plate is comforting and familiar, and it takes the cooking off the family. On the menu are new potatoes, salads and roast pork in rolls or on plates, and typical bookings are for one-year memorials and life celebrations.

In Nine Elms, a wake might be at home, a hall or a local pub. In London, outdoor space for the roaster is the thing to check, which we can help you think through. Let us know about allergies and dietary needs in advance, and we will tell you exactly what’s in each dish before booking.

Organising for someone else?

Venues frequently have rules for outside caterers, including where gas cooking is allowed. Ask early, and tell us what they ask for.

Some venues add a fee for outside caterers, so check before you book. We’ll liaise with them on access and set-up.

The process

When we arrive, we position the roaster under cover and get the hog cooking. From there it cooks low and slow for hours, worked back from your serving time. In winter, it’s dark in Nine Elms by about 3:55pm, so for an afternoon wake, light near the serving area and the door helps. In summer, there’s daylight until about 9:20pm.

  1. Share the date, place and rough numbers.
  2. You get a quick answer on the date, and a quote.
  3. We roast quietly while the service takes place.
  4. Food is ready when people arrive.
  5. We clear away discreetly.

Before we arrive

  • Collect dietary needs and allergies in advance
  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking
  • Give us final numbers a week or so before

Nine Elms questions

Could you cook in Pimlico Gardens?

Only if the landowner, usually the council, allows it. Ask them first, and tell us what they say.

Which station is closest to Nine Elms?

Battersea Park station, in Nine Elms itself.

Do you provide china?

We bring plates as standard. If you’d like china, ask and we will add it to the quote.

What about guests who don’t eat pork?

We can add lamb or chicken, plus halloumi skewers for vegetarians and a vegan burger or sausage. We do not provide halal meat.

What do people get?

Roast pork carved into soft rolls with sage and onion stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. Extras include lamb, chicken, halloumi skewers, a vegan option, salads and potatoes.

Can the hog roast be cooked indoors?

The roaster always stays outside, under cover, away from buildings and marquee walls. Serving inside is often possible, with the venue’s agreement.

Can you be flexible on serving time?

Because the roast takes hours, we plan from your serving time, and a cooked roast can be held for a while if things run late.

Can you do something else?

Chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan option. Halal is not available.

How we price a hog roast for the wake

Your quote depends on:

  • How long the roast and service take
  • Crockery choices
  • Distance from us
  • Access to the cooking area

Compare like for like: menu, sides, serving time, staff, plates and travel. A cheaper headline price can leave things out.

Getting an accurate quote

The more we know, the more accurate the quote. Please include:

  • Rough numbers

  • Dietary requirements
  • A picture of the cooking area

What we serve, dish by dish

Salads, potatoes and coleslaw

Salads, new potatoes, coleslaw and roast or jacket potatoes turn rolls into a full meal.

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

Not everyone eats meat, and halloumi skewers give them a proper hot option.

Is a hog roast right for your wake?

Next to a cold buffet, a warm plated meal is more comforting. Cost depends on numbers, menu choices and service time, plus travel and access. Every booking is different, which is why each one gets its own quote.
