Hog roast for events in St James's, carved to order

Charity fundraisers in St James's can use a hog roast to draw people in. We’ll talk through options with you. We’re frequently asked to cater fundraising events and fun runs and sports events, serving a vegan burger or sausage, hog roast rolls and apple sauce.

In St James's, community events include street parties, school fairs and markets. Organisers generally need council permission for public spaces, and the roaster needs a pitch with clearance. The hog is roasted on site at your event, low and slow, for hours, and carved only when you’re ready to eat.

A hog roast or other catering?

A hog roast alongside cakes and teas makes a good food line-up. Most of the cost is the meat, the staff and the time on site. A long, slow roast means an early start, which is built into the price.

Why St James's hosts choose us

  • Halloumi skewers and a vegan option too
  • A choice of salads and potatoes

Questions from St James's

Can you come to a school fair in St James's?

Yes, if the school is happy for a hog roast on site. Tell us the date and pitch details.

Can you do a hog roast in St Anne's Churchyard?

Only with permission from the park’s owner, typically the council, and many parks don’t allow cooking. Ask them first, and tell us what they say.

What if things run late?

Because the roast takes hours, we plan from your serving time, and we can hold the roast for a while if the day runs behind.

Do we need to provide electricity?

Not to cook, because the roaster is gas-fired. Let us know what’s on site.

Do you provide china?

We bring plates as standard. China crockery is available on request and quoted separately.

Is electricity needed?

Mainly a pitch and access. Everything else comes with us.

Can we just hire the roaster?

Yes, we hire out the hog roast machine. We will explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

Can you sell directly to visitors?

It depends on how your event works. Tell us what you have in mind and we will talk it through.

DIY versus a catered hog roast

Timing is the tricky part of roasting your own: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If you’d rather not worry about it, let us cook.

You could roast a hog yourself, but it is a long day’s work, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

What happens on the day

Rain doesn’t stop the roast, because we cook under cover. It’s worth planning a sheltered place for people to eat, too. For an autumn event in St James's, sunset is around 7:05pm in late September, so evening trading needs lights.

  1. It starts with your event date, site and expected numbers.
  2. You get a check on the date and pitch, and a quote.
  3. We arrive early, set up on the pitch and start roasting.
  4. We serve to order through the event.
  5. We pack up and leave the pitch tidy.

Before we arrive

  • Choose someone to meet us on arrival
  • Plan a step-free way in for the equipment
  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking

Allergies and dietary needs

Tell us about dietary needs early and we’ll help. Some ideas:

  • Put the menu and allergen information on display
  • Halal is not offered
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls if you expect coeliac visitors
  • Signpost the stall clearly

We follow the organiser’s site rules, including vehicle times and pitch layout.

Add rotisserie chicken for visitors who do not eat pork.

What affects the price in St James's

There is no fixed price list, since every event is different. The main factors are:

  • The number of people
  • The journey to the venue
  • Season and day of the week
  • How long the roast and service take

Compare like for like: the menu, sides, service time, staffing, crockery and travel. A cheaper headline price can leave things out.
