  • Plan separately for halal if needed
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls if you expect coeliac visitors
  • Balance the food line-up
  • Put the menu and allergen information on display

How the day works

Your timings come first. If things run late, we can hold the cooked roast for a while before carving, so keep us posted on the day. Late-May events in The Hangers have light until about 8:55pm, while at midsummer it is about 9:20pm. Evening festivals need lighting by the stall after that.

  1. You tell us the event, the pitch and the expected crowd.
  2. We check the pitch and any paperwork, then quote.
  3. On the day we set up under cover and get the hog on.
  4. We serve to order through the event.
  5. We pack down, take our waste and leave the pitch clean.

Preparing for the day

  • Make sure the cooking area is away from walls, tents and trees
  • Collect dietary needs and allergies in advance
  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking

Catered or do it yourself?

You could roast a hog yourself, but it is a long day’s work, from early set-up to carving at the end. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

If you are confident and want to save on staff, DIY machine hire is an option. You cook and carve it yourself; we’ll explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

Your questions about a hog roast for your event in The Hangers

Is The Hangers close to London?

Roughly 60 miles from the centre of London, and we cover it as standard.

Which station is closest to The Hangers?

Botley station, about 4.7 miles south-west of the centre.

What if things run late?

Within reason, we can. Keep us posted on the day and we will fit around changes.

What space does the roaster need?

Enough level ground outdoors for the roaster and a serving table under cover, plus a step-free route to wheel the equipment in. Send us a photo if you’re unsure.

When do you start roasting?

It depends on the size of the hog and the weather, but it’s several hours. We’ll confirm our arrival time when we quote.

Does the roaster have to be outside?

No, the roast is always cooked outdoors under cover, at a safe distance from walls and tents. We can often serve indoors if the venue agrees.

Can you roast in the rain?

The roaster is under cover, so a shower does not stop us. Plan somewhere sheltered for eating.

What about visitors who do not eat pork?

Add lamb, chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan option. We don’t offer halal meat.

Is a hog roast right for your event?

Compared with a barbecue stall, a hog roast serves quickly from one roast. When comparing prices, compare the same things: the menu, sides, service time, staffing, crockery and travel. A cheaper headline price can leave things out.

Why us?

  • A clear quote with everything listed
  • Sides to make it a full meal
  • Crackling for everyone who wants it
  • Halloumi skewers and a vegan option too

Take a look at our prices page and the cost guide.

Prices and what affects them

Your quote depends on:

  • The number of people
  • The journey to the venue
  • Season and day of the week
  • Plates or china

Weekday and off-season dates can be easier to book, and the menu you choose makes a difference too. Tell us your budget and we will suggest what works.

Details that help
