Hog roast for events for The Village
DIY versus a catered hog roast
A DIY hog roast suits a relaxed party where someone enjoys cooking. For weddings and bigger events, a catered roast is normally easier.
Catered or DIY? With catering, our chef roasts, carves and serves, and our staff clear up. With DIY hire, you do the work and save on staffing.
How our hog roast for events works in The Village
For a school fair, you want food families will queue for. There are options for most visitors. Whether it is tournaments and sports days and horse and dog shows, we will put together a menu of hog roast rolls, apple sauce and crackling for your visitors.
At a fête or show near The Village, we can cook in a field. Ground and access matter, so tell us about them. Let us know about allergies and dietary needs in advance, and we will tell you exactly what’s in each dish before you book.

What a hog roast costs
Every booking is priced individually, based on a few main things:
- Crockery choices
- Travel to The Village
- The serving time and how long we are on site
- Which meats and sides you choose
The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, plus travel and access. There’s no one-size price, which is why each one gets its own quote.
What to tell us
When you enquire, it helps to include:
- Where the roaster could go, ideally with a photo
- The venue or postcode
- Your date and serving time
- Rules from the venue or landowner
Not sure how many to cater for? A rough figure is fine for a first quote, then confirm closer to the date. Fill in our quote form.
Working with your venue
For events on land you don’t own, such as a park or field, you’ll need the landowner’s permission for cooking and vehicles. Get that agreed before booking.
Organisers may ask for documents such as a risk assessment or gas safety information. Let us know what your event requires and we will confirm what we can provide.
Diets, allergies and alternatives
Standard rolls and stuffing contain gluten, so ask for gluten-free rolls if you need them. Other tips:
- Gluten-free rolls can be brought on request
- Let us know if many visitors are vegetarian
- Tell us what the event asks of traders
- Balance the food line-up
We clear the pitch and take everything away.
A vegan burger or sausage covers vegan visitors.
What happens on the day
Serving is straightforward: our chef carves and our staff fill the rolls or plates, and sides go out at the same time. Afterwards we clear the serving area and pack away. In late May, sunset in The Village is about 8:55pm, while at midsummer it is about 9:25pm. After dark, the stall needs lighting.
- Organisers send us the date, site, numbers and how food will be paid for.
- You get a check on the date and pitch, and a quote.
- We arrive early, set up on the pitch and start roasting.
- We serve to order through the event.
- Afterwards we clear the pitch and go.
Getting ready for the day
- Think about shelter for your visitors
- Gather dietary requirements early
- Measure the narrowest gate or passage
