Slow-roasted pork in The Village

How our hog roast hire works in The Village

We roast the hog at your event, not in a kitchen miles away, so the pork is hot and the crackling is crisp when it’s served. Add lamb, chicken or vegetarian options if you like. Typical bookings include parties at home and birthdays and anniversaries, serving hog roast rolls, spit-roast lamb and new potatoes.

In a small place like The Village, a hog roast often goes in a field, a farmyard or a big garden. Country lanes and long drives are fine if we know about them, and level, firm ground is the key. We plan the timings around your day, because the roast has to start hours before you eat, so the food is ready at the right moment.

What a hog roast costs

Your quote depends on:

  • How long the roast and service take
  • Busy dates such as summer Saturdays
  • Travel to The Village
  • How easy it is to reach the spot

Distance is part of the price: we include travel in the quote. Give us the address so the quote is accurate.

What we need to know

To check availability and the cooking area, we will need:

  • Where the roaster could go, ideally with a picture
  • Any extras, such as lamb, chicken or china
  • Dietary requirements
  • Any venue rules

Send us the date, the address or SL4 postcode and rough numbers, along with your serving time. We will confirm availability and send a price. Send us your details through our quote form.

The Village: venues, access and local tips

The Village is about 2 miles south of Windsor, in Windsor and Maidenhead. We cater events across The Village and nearby. We bring hog roasts to 57 places in Windsor and Maidenhead. Our nearest city page is Guildford, about 14 miles away.

School fairs and fundraisers, for a school such as Windsor Girls' School, can book a hog roast stall. Thinking of a hog roast in Windsor Great Park? Cooking in a park needs the owner’s permission, generally the council’s, and many parks do not allow it.

Wherever your event is in SL4, we can roast on site for your guests. That could mean an event in a garden on Sheet Street Road and Forest Road or the roads around them, as long as there’s somewhere outside to cook. Neighbouring places where we cater events include Cranbourne (1 mile west), Woodside (1 mile south-west), Plaistow Green (2 miles west), Cheapside (2 miles south) and Brookside (2 miles south-west). Looking after everyone

Rolls and stuffing usually contain gluten, so ask for gluten-free rolls if you need them. A few more tips:

  • Find out who doesn’t eat pork, and order an alternative for them
  • Ask us to keep the vegetarian food separate and labelled
  • Remember that stuffing typically contains gluten, so ask for the allergen list
  • Put the menu on the invitation

You will not need to worry about the food on the day. We arrive hours ahead, set up, roast, carve and serve, and our staff clear the serving area afterwards.

Add lamb or chicken for a second roast.

Should I cook it myself?

The hardest part of a DIY hog roast is timing: a whole hog takes hours, and it needs to be cooked through safely. If you’d rather not worry about it, let us cook.

DIY hire works best when someone in the family loves cooking. For weddings and bigger events, a catered roast is typically easier.

The Village questions

Do you come out to small places like The Village?

No, we come to small places too. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

How far is The Village from London?

About 24 miles from central London, and well within our area.

Can the hog roast be cooked indoors?

It cooks outside, under a gazebo, on a level spot. The food can be carried in and served indoors where the venue allows.

What comes with the hog roast?

Rolls with roast pork, stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. Extras include lamb, chicken, halloumi skewers, a vegan option, salads and potatoes.

How much does a hog roast cost?

Each event is priced on its own, based on numbers, menu, service time and distance. Tell us about your event for a quote.

Do you provide china?

We supply plates as standard. China is available at an extra cost.

Do you do DIY hog roast hire?

DIY machine hire is available. We will explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

Do we need a big space?

Often, yes, if there’s a level, open spot away from the house and trees, and a way to wheel the equipment through. Send us a photo.

Why choose a hog roast in The Village?

Catered or DIY? With catering we roast, carve and serve; with hire you do the cooking. Most hosts choose catering for anything bigger than a family party. The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, along with distance and how easy the site is. Every booking is different, so we quote each one individually.

The menu, dish by dish

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

Not everyone eats meat, so halloumi and vegetable skewers make sure they’re not left with just salad.

Rotisserie chicken

Rotisserie chicken is there for anyone who’d rather not have pork, and it suits fussy eaters.

How it works

From setting up to the last roll, we look after the food, so you can enjoy your event in The Village. Light matters for a long roast: in The Village, sunset is around 8:55pm in late May and 9:25pm in late June, while in December the light goes at about 3:55pm, so winter bookings need lighting from mid-afternoon.

  1. You tell us the date, the address, rough numbers and when you’d like to eat.
  2. We check the date and the cooking area, then send a quote.
  3. On the day, we set up on the agreed spot and start roasting.
  4. At serving time, the chef carves and the team serves.
  5. We clear the serving area and pack away.

How to prepare

  • Confirm numbers ahead of the day
  • Choose a level, open spot outdoors for the roaster
  • Have a covered area for eating in case of rain

Working with your venue

For venues and planners, we can fit around your other suppliers, sharing timings and a site plan.

If the event is on someone else’s land, you will need the landowner’s permission for cooking and vehicles. Get that agreed before booking.

  • Roasted slowly at your venue, outdoors and under cover
  • Carved to order by our chef, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Not just pork: spit-roast lamb, chicken and vegetarian choices
  • Staff to serve at the agreed time, then clear away
