Hog roast hire in Barcombe Mills, slow-roasted on site

We roast the hog at your event, not in a kitchen miles away, so the pork is hot and the crackling is crisp when it’s served. Lamb, chicken and vegetarian options can go alongside. Whether it’s village fêtes and school fairs and christmas fairs, we can cook halloumi skewers, crackling and new potatoes and more.

In a rural place like Barcombe Mills, roast pork in a field is hard to beat. Tell us about gates, tracks and the ground. Everything we need to roast, carve and serve comes with us, and we leave the spot tidy when we go.

Allergies and dietary needs

Standard rolls and stuffing contain gluten, so ask for gluten-free rolls if you need them. Other tips:

  • Add a dietary question to your invitations
  • Give us numbers for vegetarians and vegans so we bring enough halloumi skewers and vegan burgers or sausages
  • Stuffing normally contains gluten, so ask for the allergen list
  • If anyone needs halal food, plan a separate option

On the day, you shouldn’t have to think about the food. We arrive hours ahead, set up, roast, carve and serve, then clear up.

Salads, coleslaw and potatoes make it a full meal, and they’re listed in your quote.

Full catering or machine hire?

If you’re confident and want to save on staff, DIY machine hire is an option. You do the roasting and carving; we will explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

Full catering or machine hire? Catered means we do everything: roasting, carving, serving and clearing. With DIY hire, you do the work and save on staffing.

What we serve, dish by dish

Roast pork

Our chef carves the pork as it is needed, so it stays hot and juicy.

Crackling

Long, slow roasting turns the skin into crackling, and we break it up so everyone gets a piece.

Prices and what affects them

A few things make the biggest difference to the price:

  • The date and time of year
  • How long the roast and service take
  • Crockery choices
  • Site access

The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, along with distance and how easy the site is. Every booking is different, which is why each one gets its own quote.

Getting an accurate quote

These are the details we need:

  • Rough numbers
  • Rules from the venue or landowner
  • Your date and serving time
  • Any dietary needs or allergies

Planning ahead? Popular dates fill up early, so ask early for summer Saturdays and December. Send us your date for a quote: use our quote form.

The process

We cook on a gas-fired roaster, so we don’t need mains power to cook; a nearby socket helps with lights if service runs into the evening. Around midsummer it stays light in Barcombe Mills until about 9:15pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:05pm, so a summer evening hog roast is normally carved in daylight. For winter events, dark by about 3:55pm, we need light by the roaster and the serving table.

  1. It starts with your date, venue, numbers and serving time.
  2. We check availability and the space for the roaster and send a clear quote.
  3. On the day we arrive hours before serving and start the roast under cover.
  4. We carve and serve when you are ready to eat.
  5. We clear the serving area and pack away.

Getting ready for the day

  • Confirm numbers ahead of the day
  • Measure the narrowest gate or passage
  • Ensure we can wheel the roaster to the spot
