Slow-roasted pork in Buckland

How our hog roast hire works in Buckland

Booking a hog roast means you don’t have to cook. We arrive hours before you eat, set up under cover and roast slowly, ready to carve when you are. Typical bookings include birthdays and anniversaries and sports clubs and societies, serving spit-roast lamb, salads and new potatoes.

Somewhere as small as Buckland, a field, yard or garden is often the spot. Tell us about narrow lanes or long drives, and firm, level ground matters most. We bring the roaster, the cover and everything we need to cook and serve, and we pack away and leave the area as we found it.

What a hog roast costs

Every booking is priced individually, and the price depends on a few things:

  • Site access
  • The date and time of year
  • The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken
  • The serving time and how long we are on site

Adding lamb, chicken, extra sides or china changes the price, so each one is itemised. Keeping it simple keeps it affordable.

Details that help

The more we know, the more accurate the quote. Useful details:

  • Where the event is
  • What the outdoor space is like
  • Roughly how many people
  • Any venue rules

Numbers not final yet? A rough figure is fine for a first quote, and you can confirm nearer the time. Fill in our quote form.

A hog roast or other catering?

A hog roast has one downside: it is pork. That’s why we offer lamb, chicken, halloumi skewers and a vegan option. Weekday and off-season dates can be easier to book, and the menu you choose makes a difference too. Ask us and we will suggest the best fit for your budget.

What we serve, dish by dish

Rotisserie chicken

Rotisserie chicken is a simple, popular alternative to pork, roasted until golden.

Salads, potatoes and coleslaw

Crunchy coleslaw suits roast pork, and salads and new potatoes work well on a plate.

Working with your venue

Event organisers frequently ask caterers for paperwork such as a risk assessment. Tell us what you need and we will tell you what we can send.

For venues and planners, we are happy to work alongside your team.

Step by step

It is a relaxed, well-organised set-up. Arrival and serving times are agreed beforehand, set up where we’ve agreed, and get on with roasting and serving. By late September, sunset in Buckland is around 7:10pm, and in December it’s nearer 4:00pm. For anything after that, plan lights for the serving area.

  1. You tell us the date, the address, rough numbers and when you’d like to eat.
  2. We check the date and the cooking area, then send a quote.
  3. On the day we arrive hours before serving and start the roast under cover.
  4. We carve and serve when you’re ready to eat.
  5. Afterwards we clear up and leave the spot tidy.

How to prepare

  • Keep the spot clear of buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches
  • Choose someone to meet us on arrival
  • Think about shelter for your guests

Your questions about a hog roast in Buckland

Do you come out to small places like Buckland?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

We are gathering after a service at Roman Catholic Church of St George: can you cater?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Food is typically served at the reception venue rather than the church. Send us the address.

How do you work out quantities?

Quantities are based on your numbers, and we’ll talk it through when we quote.

Can you cater in Buckland?

We do. Send us the address and we’ll confirm availability.

What about guests who do not eat pork?

The menu has lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options. Halal meat is not something we offer.

Do you clear up?

We clear the serving area and pack away, leaving the spot as we found it.

What meats can we have?

The hog is the centrepiece, with lamb and chicken as extras.

When do you start roasting?

A whole hog roasts for several hours, so we arrive well before you want to eat. We work back from your serving time.

Should I cook it myself?

We also hire out the hog roast machine for confident cooks. You cook and carve it yourself; we’ll confirm what comes with it when you ask.

You could roast a hog yourself, but it’s a long day’s work, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. A catered hog roast means you can enjoy the day.

  • Roasted on site for several hours, outdoors under cover
  • Freshly carved pork with crackling, stuffing and apple sauce
  • Options beyond pork, including lamb, chicken and vegetarian dishes
  • Served by our staff at the time you choose, then cleared away
