Should I cook it myself?

Some hosts try a barbecue instead, but someone ends up cooking in batches all afternoon. With a hog roast, one roast feeds everyone at once.

Buying in a cold buffet is another option, but nothing beats hot pork and crackling carved in front of you, especially outdoors.

The menu, dish by dish

Salads, potatoes and coleslaw

Coleslaw is the natural partner for a pork roll, and salads and new potatoes work well on a plate.

Vegan burger or sausage (Ve)

Vegan guests can have a vegan burger or sausage, so nobody misses out.

Prices and what affects them

A hog roast or other catering?

Compared with a cold buffet, hot roast pork carved in front of you is a different experience. A buffet can sit out all afternoon. Adding lamb, chicken, extra sides or china changes the price, so each one is itemised. A simple menu keeps the cost down.

Why book our hog roast in Chilton Green

  • Cooked on the day, low and slow
  • Rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Our staff serve and clear
  • Halloumi skewers and a vegan option too

Take a look at our prices page and the cost guide.

Looking after everyone

With a bit of planning, dietary needs are easier to handle. A few tips:

  • Stuffing normally contains gluten, so ask for the allergen list
  • Label the vegetarian and vegan food clearly
  • Ask about allergies when you send invitations
  • Tell us about vegetarians and vegans so we bring enough halloumi skewers and vegan burgers or sausages

If timings shift, tell us: we can hold the roast for a while.

We also hire out the roaster for DIY hog roasts.

Common questions in Chilton Green

We are gathering after a service at St Peter and St Paul's Church: can you cater?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is normally elsewhere. Tell us where you will gather.

Is Chilton Green too small for a hog roast?

No, we come to small places too. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

What happens when we hire a hog roast?

We bring the roaster, roast the hog on site for hours, then our chef carves it and our staff serve, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling.

What about guests who don’t eat pork?

There are lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options: spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan burger or sausage. We don’t offer halal meat.

What should we sort out beforehand?

The agreed cooking area, access for our equipment and someone to meet us. We bring everything else.

Is it just pork?

It’s built around the hog, but lamb and chicken can be added.

Do you need power or water?

No, the roast is cooked on gas. Tell us what’s available and we’ll plan around it.

How much room do you need?

Enough level ground outdoors for the roaster and a serving table under cover, plus a step-free route to wheel the equipment in. Send us a picture if you’re unsure.

How the day works

When we arrive, we position the roaster under cover and get the hog cooking. It then roasts slowly for several hours, timed so it’s ready when you want to eat. In Chilton Green, the sun sets at about 9:20pm in late June and about 7:10pm in late September, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. For winter events, dark by about 4:05pm, we need light by the roaster and the serving table.

  1. Send us your date, numbers and address.
  2. We look at the cooking area and send a price.
  3. We get the roaster going hours before you eat.
  4. The chef carves and the team fills rolls or plates.
  5. We pack away and leave you to it.

Before we arrive

  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking
  • Gather dietary requirements early
  • Name a contact for the day
