Book a hog roast in Hawridge

Hog roast hire for your event in Hawridge

We roast the hog at your event, not in a kitchen miles away, which means it’s carved hot, with crisp crackling. Add lamb, chicken or vegetarian options if you like. Typical bookings include milestone birthdays and weddings, day or evening, serving crackling, new potatoes and halloumi skewers.

In a small place like Hawridge, a hog roast often goes in a field, a farmyard or a big garden. Country lanes and long drives are fine if we know about them, and firm, level ground matters most. We bring plates as standard, with china available if you’d like it, at an extra cost.

DIY versus a catered hog roast

DIY hire works best when someone in the family loves cooking. For weddings and bigger events, a catered roast is typically easier.

The hardest part of a DIY hog roast is timing: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If that sounds stressful, choose the catered option.

Hog roast hire around Hawridge

Hawridge is in Buckinghamshire. A hog roast suits events around Hawridge, whatever the venue. Hawridge is one of 263 places in Buckinghamshire where we cater. You can also see our page for Milton Keynes, about 21 miles away.

Churches such as Church of St Mary rarely have room for a roaster, but a hall or home close by usually does. For anyone arriving by rail, Berkhamsted station, about 3.2 miles east, is the nearest station. The Chilterns National Landscape is within about 5 miles of Hawridge, and some venues there have rules about cooking and vehicles on site. Check your venue’s rules on outside caterers.

For events in HP5, we just need to know where the roaster can cook. Your event could be at a house on Hawridge Common and Hawridge Vale or the roads around them, as long as there’s somewhere outside to cook. Close by, we cover events in Bellingdon (1 mile south), Asheridge (1 mile south) and Chartridge (2 miles south). Within a short drive, we also cover Aylesbury (9 miles north-west), High Wycombe (10 miles south-west), Chesham (3 miles south), Marlow (14 miles south-west), Amersham (5 miles south) and Beaconsfield (10 miles south).

Other landmarks nearby include Hawridge Court (0.6 miles south-east) and Chiltern Hospital (4.9 miles south-west). The countryside around Hawridge includes Sands Bank and Pavis Wood.

  • Local pubs include The Rose & Crown pub (within half a mile south-east)

What happens on the day

When we arrive, we set up the roaster on the agreed spot, put the cover up and start the roast. It then roasts slowly for several hours, timed so it’s ready when you want to eat. By late September, sunset in Hawridge is around 7:05pm, and at Christmas it comes at about 3:55pm. After dark, a lit path to the food makes a difference.

  1. It starts with your date, venue, numbers and serving time.
  2. You get a check on the date and the spot, and a quote.
  3. We arrive well ahead, put the cover up and get the hog roasting.
  4. We carve and serve when you are ready to eat.
  5. Afterwards we clear up and leave the spot tidy.

Choosing a hog roast caterer

Hawridge: your questions answered

How far is Hawridge from London?

About 29 miles from central London, and well within our area.

What’s the nearest station to Hawridge?

The closest is Berkhamsted station, roughly 3.2 miles away.

When should we book?

As early as you can for summer weekends and December. Quieter dates can frequently be booked at shorter notice. Ask and we’ll check.

Can you cook inside a hall or marquee?

Outside, always. Serving indoors is usually fine if the venue is happy.

How does hog roast hire work?

You choose the date, the menu and the serving time; we do the rest. Just give us an outdoor spot to cook.

What happens after service?

We clear the serving area and pack away, leaving the spot as we found it.

How much room do you need?

A flat, open spot outside, and a way to wheel everything in. Send us a picture if you are unsure.

How much will it be?

Each event is priced on its own, depending on numbers, menu, timings and travel. Tell us about your event for a quote.

Allergies and dietary needs

With a bit of planning, dietary needs are easier to handle. Here are a few tips:

  • Tell us about vegetarians and vegans so we bring enough halloumi skewers and vegan burgers or sausages
  • If anyone needs halal food, plan a separate option
  • Add a dietary question to your invitations
  • Remember that stuffing usually contains gluten, so check the allergen information

If timings shift, tell us: a cooked roast can be held for a while before carving.

Prefer to cook yourself? Ask about DIY machine hire.

Planning the cooking spot

We need room to cook safely and under cover. Before booking, check:

  • Parking near the spot
  • A marquee, hall or barn as a wet-weather plan
  • Flat outdoor ground for the roaster and a gazebo

Not sure about the cooking spot? Send us a photo and we will tell you honestly.

Prices and what affects them

We work out each quote from:

  • Busy dates such as summer Saturdays
  • How easy it is to reach the spot
  • The number of people
  • The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken

Adding lamb, chicken, extra sides or china changes the price, so each one is itemised. A simple menu keeps the cost down.

Getting an accurate quote

When you get in touch, please mention:

  • Where the event is
  • Dietary requirements
  • An estimate of numbers
  • Anything the venue has asked for

Numbers not final yet? Give us your best estimate and we’ll quote on that, and you can confirm nearer the time. Use our quote form.

Is a hog roast right for your event?

A hog roast has one downside: it is pork. So we offer lamb, chicken and vegetarian and vegan choices too. The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, along with distance and how easy the site is. Every booking is different, so we quote each one individually.

Why book with us

  • The classics: stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • A choice of salads and potatoes
  • Roasted on site, slowly, for hours
  • Planned to your running order

Take a look at our pricing or what a hog roast costs.
