Slow-roasted pork in Poundon

Hog roast hire in Poundon, slow-roasted on site

Hog roast hire means a whole pig roasted slowly at your venue, for hours, under a gazebo outside. When it is ready, our chef carves it and our staff serve it in soft rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and a piece of crackling. Whether it’s parties at home and sports clubs and societies, we can cook salads, spit-roast lamb and crackling and more.

In a small place like Poundon, a hog roast frequently goes in a field, a farmyard or a big garden. Tell us about narrow lanes or long drives, and firm, level ground matters most. Everything is cooked on the day, at your venue, slowly, over several hours, and carved only when you’re ready to eat.

Rotisserie chicken

Golden rotisserie chicken can be served in a roll or on a plate alongside the pork.

Your questions about a hog roast in Poundon

What’s the nearest station to Poundon?

The closest is Bicester North station, roughly 4.1 miles away.

Do you come out to small places like Poundon?

No, we come to small places too. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.

What should we sort out beforehand?

Just the agreed spot and a contact on the day. Everything for roasting and serving comes with us.

What if it rains?

We roast under cover, so the food is not affected. Your guests will want somewhere dry to eat.

How long does a hog roast take to cook?

Hours rather than minutes. We’ll confirm our arrival time when we quote.

Can you work around our timings?

We’ll be as flexible as we can. Keep us posted on the day and we’ll adjust.

Where does the hog roast go?

A level, open area outdoors with room for the roaster, a gazebo and a carving table, well clear of walls, tents and branches. We will check it with you before booking.

Do we need a big space?

Many gardens are big enough, as long as we can get the equipment in. Send us a picture.

Should I cook it myself?

Catered or DIY? Catered means we do everything: roasting, carving, serving and clearing. With hire only, you do the cooking yourself.

Roasting a whole hog yourself is possible, but it takes hours of attention, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

How the day works

Rain does not stop the roast, because we cook under cover. It is worth planning a sheltered place for people to eat, too. Around midsummer it stays light in Poundon until about 9:25pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:10pm, so a summer evening hog roast is normally carved in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 3:55pm, so the cooking and serving area needs lighting.

  1. First, you send us your date, address, numbers and serving time.
  2. We check availability and the space for the roaster and send a clear quote.
  3. On the day we arrive hours before serving and start the roast under cover.
  4. At serving time, the chef carves and the team serves.
  5. We clear the serving area and pack away.

Before we arrive

  • Check there is nothing overhead or close by that could catch the heat
  • Let us know about tight access
  • Give us final numbers a week or so before

Planners, venues and businesses

Many venues set rules for outside caterers, including where gas cooking is allowed. Check early, and tell us what they ask for.

For workplace bookings, check with facilities about gas equipment and vehicle access. We’ll fit in with site rules.

Before you choose a spot

A hog roast cooks outdoors for hours, so the spot matters, so a few things are worth checking:

  • Access for our equipment, without steps
  • Flat outdoor ground for the roaster and a gazebo
  • Space away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise before you book.
