  • The serving time and how long we’re on site
  • The number of people

The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, plus travel and access. Every booking is different, which is why each one gets its own quote.

Hog roast hire in Rock-a-Nore, carved to order

There is nothing quite like the smell of a hog roast drifting across a garden or field. We cook at your venue in Rock-a-Nore, low and slow, then carve the pork into rolls with all the trimmings. Popular choices include new potatoes, spit-roast lamb and crackling, and we are often booked for birthdays and anniversaries and village fêtes and school fairs.

Around Rock-a-Nore, bookings are often at homes, village halls and playing fields. If access is tight, we will plan around it. We bring the people to serve and clear up, so nobody in your party has to serve or tidying up afterwards.

What comes off the roaster

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

For vegetarians, halloumi and vegetable skewers are cooked separately from the meat, a hot, filling option of their own.

Stuffing and apple sauce

Apple sauce brings sweetness and sharpness go with the pork perfectly. Note that stuffing usually contains gluten.

A hog roast or other catering?

A hog roast has one downside: it’s pork. So we offer lamb, chicken and vegetarian and vegan choices too. Weekday and off-season dates can be easier to book, and the menu you choose matters too. Tell us your budget and we will suggest what works.

What you get with us

  • Choices for people who don’t eat pork
  • We bring everything to cook and serve
  • Timed around your day
  • Fresh carving at the serving station

See our pricing or the cost guide.

How the day works

A hog roast is always cooked outside, on a level, open spot under cover, well clear of walls, tents and trees. We agree exactly where before the day. Around midsummer it stays light in Rock-a-Nore until about 9:15pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:00pm, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. For winter events, dark by about 3:55pm, we need light by the roaster and the serving table.

  1. You share the when, where and how many.
  2. We check the space and quote.
  3. We arrive early, set up under cover and start roasting.
  4. The chef carves and the team fills rolls or plates.
  5. We pack away and leave you to it.

How to prepare

  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking
  • Check there’s a route to wheel the equipment in, without steps
  • Send final numbers in good time

Rock-a-Nore questions

Can you do a hog roast in Linton Gardens?

Only if the landowner, generally the council, allows it. Ask them first, and tell us what they say.

Is Rock-a-Nore close to London?

About 54 miles from central London, and we cover it as standard.

How much room do you need?

Enough level ground outdoors for the roaster and a serving table under cover, and a way to wheel everything in. Send us a picture if you are unsure.

Will there be enough to go round?

The roast is chosen to suit how many you’re feeding, so a good estimate matters. We’ll confirm the menu in the quote.

Do you offer gluten-free rolls?

Gluten-free rolls are available on request. Stuffing normally contains gluten, so check the allergen information.

Can the hog roast be cooked indoors?

Outside, always. The food can be carried in and served indoors where the venue allows.

What comes with the hog roast?

Pork, stuffing, apple sauce and crackling in a soft roll. Sides and extra meats are listed in your quote.

Do you cook it or do we?

Either: fully catered, where we roast, carve and serve, or DIY machine hire. Catering is the most popular choice.

Diets, allergies and alternatives

You’ll get allergen information for everything we serve. To make the most of it:

  • Count anyone who doesn’t eat pork, so we can bring lamb, chicken or vegetarian options
  • Put the menu on the invitation
  • Give us numbers for vegetarians and vegans for the halloumi skewers and vegan option
  • Add a dietary question to your invitations

Let us know if the day runs late: we can hold the roast for a while.

We can supply china instead of standard plates, quoted separately.

Bringing a hog roast to Rock-a-Nore

PTAs at schools such as Ark Castledown Primary Academy often look for a hot-food stall for fairs and sports days. If you are gathering after a service at a church like Ebenezer Particular Baptist Chapel, a nearby hall or garden suits a hog roast. Rock-a-Nore is within about a mile of the sea, and sea breezes can be strong. We plan a sheltered cooking spot on windy days.

Here we cover the TN34 and TN35 postcode area, so your event can be anywhere in it. Working with your venue

Planning on behalf of a committee? A single point of contact keeps things simple, especially on the day.

If you are organising for someone else, whether you’re a planner, a PA or on a committee, tell us who our contact on the day will be. We’ll keep you both updated.

Full catering or machine hire?

Roasting a whole hog yourself is possible, but it takes hours of attention, from early set-up to carving at the end. A catered hog roast means you can enjoy the day.

You could go for a cold buffet, but nothing beats hot pork and crackling carved in front of you.

  • Roasted on site for several hours, outdoors under cover
  • Our chef carves the pork, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling on the side
  • Options beyond pork, including lamb, chicken and vegetarian dishes
  • Staff to serve at the agreed time, then clear away
