About the food

Stuffing and apple sauce

A spoonful of apple sauce and a slice of stuffing turn a pork roll into a hog roast roll.

Hog roast hire for your event in South Heath

Hiring a hog roast means a whole hog cooked slowly on site, over several hours, outdoors under cover. When it is ready, our chef carves it and our staff serve it in soft rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and a piece of crackling. For wakes and wedding breakfasts and evening food, we will put together a menu of crackling, rotisserie chicken and hog roast rolls.

In a rural place like South Heath, roast pork in a field is hard to beat. Let us know about access and ground conditions. Everything is cooked on the day, at your venue, low and slow, for hours, and carved only when you are ready to eat.

What affects the price in South Heath

Every booking is priced individually, based on a few main things:

  • How easy it is to reach the spot
  • Busy dates such as summer Saturdays
  • Travel to South Heath
  • The serving time and how long we’re on site

A hog roast is often good value for a crowd, because one whole roast feeds a lot of people. The menu, extras such as china and the serving time all affect the final price.

Getting an accurate quote

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. Here’s what to include:

  • Any venue rules
  • Where the roaster could go, ideally with a photo
  • Any dietary needs or allergies
  • Any extras, such as lamb, chicken or china

A quote from us sets out the menu, timings, staffing and what’s included, so you can compare caterers fairly. Send us your details through our quote form.

Before you choose a spot

The right spot for the roaster makes everything easier. Ideally:

  • The venue’s agreement to a gas-fired roaster
  • A sheltered place for people to eat if it rains
  • A level, open spot outdoors for the roaster

Not sure about the cooking spot? Send us a photo and we will tell you honestly before you book.

South Heath: your questions answered

We are gathering after a service at St Mary's: can you cater?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is normally elsewhere. Send us the address.

Is South Heath too small for a hog roast?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

How big a hog will we need?

The roast is chosen to suit how many you’re feeding, so a good estimate matters. The quote sets it out.

What about guests who do not eat pork?

There are lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options: spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan burger or sausage. We don’t offer halal meat.

Do you cover South Heath?

Yes. We cater across London and the South East, South Heath and the rest of Buckinghamshire included. Send us the address for a quote.

Does the roaster have to be outside?

The roaster always stays outside, under cover, at a safe distance from walls and tents. We can frequently serve indoors if the venue agrees.

Is crackling included?

Yes, the crackling is shared out as we carve.

What do people get?

Pork, stuffing, apple sauce and crackling in a soft roll. Your quote lists any sides and extras.

Perfect for your event in South Heath

You do not need much on your side: just an outdoor spot for the roaster. Everything else comes with us.

Hosts in South Heath book us for small gatherings and big outdoor days alike. For example:

  • Corporate events
  • Christmas fairs
  • Parties at home
  • Birthdays and anniversaries

Churches such as St Mary's rarely have room for a roaster, but a hall or home close by typically does.

What your quote should include

  • Exactly what’s included in the price
  • Travel and any London charges
  • Plates, china and cutlery
  • Arrival time and how long the roast needs

DIY versus a catered hog roast

Some hosts try a barbecue instead, but someone has to stand at the grill all day. A hog roast cooks in one go and is carved for everyone.

You could roast a hog yourself, but it’s a long day’s work, from early set-up to carving at the end. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

Planning for dietary needs

We give full allergen information for every dish. To make the most of it:

  • Tell guests what’s on the menu in advance
  • Label the vegetarian and vegan food clearly
  • Tell us about vegetarians and vegans for the halloumi skewers and vegan option
  • We don’t offer halal meat, so arrange that separately if it’s needed

We’ll be with you for a good part of the day, because the roast starts hours before you eat.

China crockery is available on request, at an extra cost.

Is a hog roast right for your event?

Compared with food vans, a hog roast serves a lot of people from one roast. Compare like for like: the menu, sides, service time, staffing, crockery and travel. A cheaper headline price can leave things out.

What you get with us

  • Served at the time you choose
  • Self-contained: roaster, cover and serving kit
  • Salads, potatoes and coleslaw to go with it
  • Choices for people who don’t eat pork

The process

Expect a calm, organised set-up. Arrival and serving times are agreed beforehand, set up where we’ve agreed, and roast, carve and serve without fuss. Late September evenings in South Heath lose the light at about 7:05pm, and in December it is nearer 3:55pm. After dark, a lit path to the food makes a difference.

  1. It starts with your date, venue, numbers and serving time.
  2. You get a check on the date and the spot, and a quote.
  3. We arrive well ahead, put the cover up and get the hog roasting.
  4. We carve and serve when you’re ready to eat.
  5. We clear the serving area and pack away.

Preparing for the day

  • Check there’s a route to wheel the equipment in, without steps
  • Name a contact for the day
  • Confirm numbers ahead of the day
