Allergies and dietary needs

Tell us about dietary needs early and we’ll help. Tips:

  • Request gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests
  • Collect allergies with your RSVPs
  • Tell us about vegetarians and vegans for the halloumi skewers and vegan option
  • Stuffing normally contains gluten, so ask for the allergen list

If timings shift, tell us: we can hold the roast for a while.

China crockery is available on request, quoted separately.

Planners, venues and businesses

Venues frequently have rules for outside caterers, from approved lists to where a gas roaster can go. Ask early, and tell us what they ask for.

Some venues charge a fee if you bring in your own caterer, so check before you book. We will work with the venue on access and the cooking spot.

Cost depends on numbers, menu choices and service time, plus travel and access. Every booking is different, which is why each one gets its own quote.

Stud Green questions

Can you do a hog roast in Ockwells Park?

Only if the landowner, generally the council, allows it. Check with them first.

Which station is closest to Stud Green?

The closest is Maidenhead station, roughly 2 miles away.

Can you roast in the rain?

We cook under a gazebo, so rain is not a problem for the roast. A marquee, hall or barn for eating makes all the difference.

What about guests who don’t eat pork?

We can add lamb or chicken, plus halloumi skewers for vegetarians and a vegan burger or sausage. Halal meat isn’t something we offer.

Is it just pork?

The hog is the centrepiece, with lamb and chicken as extras.

How long does a hog roast take to cook?

Several hours, depending on the size and the weather, so we arrive well before you want to eat. We work back from your serving time.

Is our garden big enough?

Often, yes, if there’s a level, open spot away from the house and trees, as long as we can get the equipment in. A photo helps us check.

Do we need to provide electricity?

The roaster runs on gas, so we don’t need mains power to cook. Power can help with lighting after dark.

What happens on the day

Serving is straightforward: our chef carves and our staff fill the rolls or plates, and sides go out at the same time. Afterwards we clear the serving area and pack away. In Stud Green, the sun sets at about 9:25pm in late June and about 7:05pm in late September, so a summer evening hog roast is normally carved in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 3:55pm, so the cooking and serving area needs lighting.

  1. You tell us the date, the address, rough numbers and when you’d like to eat.
  2. We check availability and the space for the roaster and send a clear quote.
  3. On the day we arrive hours before serving and start the roast under cover.
  4. We carve and serve when you’re ready to eat.
  5. Afterwards we clear up and leave the spot tidy.

Preparing for the day

  • Check there’s a route to wheel the equipment in, without steps
  • Think about shelter for your guests
  • Collect dietary needs and allergies in advance

About the food

Spit-roast lamb

Spit-roast lamb cooks slowly like the hog, and it is carved the same way, often with mint sauce.

Rolls and gluten-free rolls

Everything goes into a soft roll, perfect for eating on the move. Gluten-free rolls are available on request.

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

Next to a street-food van, a hog roast feeds a crowd quickly from one roast. When comparing prices, compare the same things: menu, sides, serving time, staff, plates and travel. The cheapest quote isn’t always the best value.
