Planners, venues and businesses
Some venues charge a fee if you bring in your own caterer, so check before you book. We’ll work with the venue on access and the cooking spot.
For events on land you don’t own, such as a park or field, the landowner needs to agree to cooking and vehicles. Sort that first.

DIY versus a catered hog roast
Catered or DIY? With catering, our chef roasts, carves and serves, and our staff clear up. With hire only, you do the cooking yourself.
Timing is the tricky part of roasting your own: a whole hog takes hours, and it needs to be cooked through safely. If that sounds stressful, choose the catered option.
Planning the cooking spot
It’s worth planning the cooking area in advance. The ideal spot has:
- Space for our vehicle near the drive
- A spot well away from the house
- A side gate or passage wide enough to wheel the equipment
Not sure about the cooking spot? Send us a picture and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

How the day works
Service is quick once we start carving: our chef carves and our staff fill the rolls or plates, and sides go out at the same time. When everyone has eaten, we clear up and leave the spot tidy. In Curbridge, late May sunsets come at about 8:55pm and midsummer ones at about 9:20pm, so most summer parties eat in daylight. After about 4:00pm in December, we need light to carve.

A cooked roast holds for a while, so tell us if timings change.
Add coleslaw, salads and jacket potatoes to make it a full meal.
A hog roast or other catering?
Compared with a barbecue, no one gets stuck at the grill, and the food is ready for everyone at once. Adding lamb, chicken, extra sides or china changes the price, so each one is itemised. A simple menu keeps the cost down.
