How the day works

The secret is time: hours of gentle heat make the pork soft and juicy while the skin turns into crackling. Then it rests briefly before our chef carves. In East Sheen, late May sunsets come at about 8:55pm and midsummer ones at about 9:20pm, so an early-evening carve is generally in daylight. After about 3:55pm in December, we need light to carve.

  1. Show us the garden or drive.
  2. We confirm it works and send a quote.
  3. On the day, we roast slowly under cover.
  4. Our staff serve rolls and sides.
  5. We clear up so you don’t have to.

Preparing for the day

  • Ask about allergies and dietary needs beforehand
  • Send final numbers in good time
  • Name a contact for the day

Is a hog roast right for your party?

Next to ordering takeaway, a hog roast is part of the party, not just the food. The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, along with distance and how easy the site is. Every booking is different, which is why each one gets its own quote.

Why book with us

  • Staff to serve, so you don’t have to
  • Crackling for everyone who wants it
  • Carved by our chef in front of your guests
  • Roasted on site, slowly, for hours

Take a look at how we price and our hog roast cost guide.

DIY versus a catered hog roast

DIY hire works best when someone in the family loves cooking. For bigger or more formal events, catering takes the pressure off.

Roasting a whole hog yourself is possible, but it takes hours of attention, from early set-up to carving at the end. A catered hog roast means you can enjoy the day.

What a hog roast costs

Each booking is quoted on its own, and the price depends on a few things:

  • Distance from us
  • How easy it is to reach the spot
  • Season and day of the week
  • Whether you want china

When comparing prices, compare the same things: menu, sides, serving time, staff, plates and travel. A cheaper headline price can leave things out.

What we need to know

To get the best quote, tell us:

  • Any dietary needs or allergies
  • Which meats and sides you’d like
  • Roughly how many people
  • The venue or postcode

For a quote, send us a few details: the date and serving time, the venue or SW14 postcode, rough numbers and which extras you’d like. Fill in our quote form.

Your questions about a hog roast for your party in East Sheen

Can you cater after a service at All Saints' Church?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Food is usually served at the reception venue rather than the church. Tell us where you will gather.

What if our house in East Sheen has no side access?

Often, if there is a rear gate, a front garden or a yard we can use. Tell us about steps, gates and parking and we will advise.

How much does a hog roast cost?

It depends on numbers, the menu and how long we are on site. Send us the details and we’ll quote.

Is clearing up included?

Yes, we clear up after service.

How long does the roast need?

It depends on the size of the hog and the weather, but it is several hours. We will confirm our arrival time when we quote.

Do you need power or water?

Cooking is gas-fired, so no mains power is needed for the roast. A socket nearby is useful for lighting.

Do you offer gluten-free rolls?

Ask for gluten-free rolls and we’ll bring them. You’ll get allergen details for everything.

What space does the roaster need?

A level, open area outdoors with room for the roaster, a gazebo and a carving table, well clear of walls, tents and branches. We’ll check it with you before booking.

Working with your venue

Some venues add a fee for outside caterers, so check before you book. We’ll work with the venue on access and the cooking spot.

Marquee suppliers typically set distances for cooking equipment, so tell them a hog roast is coming. The roaster stays a safe distance from the marquee.

Where the roaster can go in East Sheen

The roaster needs space, cover and a safe distance from anything that could catch the heat. Before booking, check:

  • A word with the neighbours
  • A spot well away from the house
  • Somewhere dry for guests to eat

As a London location, East Sheen is inside the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and access takes planning: tell us about side or rear access, steps and parking for our vehicle.

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise before you book.

Planning for dietary needs

With a bit of planning, dietary needs are easier to handle. A few tips:

  • Add a dietary question to the invite
  • Give us numbers for vegetarians and vegans
  • Plan separately for anyone who needs halal food
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls if anyone needs them

Have a word with the neighbours first: roasting takes hours and the smell travels, and they may ask for a roll.
