Party hog roast in Hodsoll Street, carved to order

Hosting a party means juggling everything at once. With a hog roast, the food is sorted: we cook, carve and serve. Popular choices include a vegan burger or sausage, crackling and jacket potatoes, and typical bookings are for anniversary parties and christenings and naming days.

In a small place like Hodsoll Street, a party in the garden or a nearby field is frequently the plan. Let us know about access, and we’ll plan the route. The carving happens right in front of your guests, so the pork is hot and the crackling is crisp, and nothing sits in a hot cabinet.

Hodsoll Street: your questions answered

What’s the nearest station to Hodsoll Street?

Meopham station, about 3.4 miles north-east of the centre.

Can you cater after a service at Church of Saint Peter?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is normally elsewhere. Tell us where you’ll gather.

Can you work around our timings?

Within reason, we can. Give us a contact on the day and we will adjust.

Can we just hire the roaster?

DIY machine hire is available. We’ll explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

How soon do you get booked up?

Summer Saturdays and December book up first. For other dates, a few weeks can be enough. Send your date and we’ll check.

Do you need power or water?

No, the roast is cooked on gas. Let us know what’s on site.

How long does the roast need?

Several hours, depending on the size and the weather, so we arrive well before you want to eat. We work back from your serving time.

What’s the price?

Numbers, menu and travel decide the price. Send us the details and we’ll quote.

Working with your venue

Marquee hire companies frequently have rules about cooking near their tents, so let them know about the roaster. The roaster stays a safe distance from the marquee.

Some venues charge a fee if you bring in your own caterer, so check before booking. We will liaise with them on access and set-up.

What a hog roast costs

The price comes down to:

  • Time on site
  • Crockery choices
  • Season and day of the week
  • The journey to the venue

The main driver is numbers: the price per head usually falls as numbers rise, since much of the cost is fixed.

What to tell us

To check availability and the cooking area, tell us:

  • Rules from the venue or landowner
  • The date and time of the event
  • The address or postcode
  • Where the roaster could go, ideally with a photo

Every party is quoted on its own, based on numbers, menu, timings and distance. Ask us for a quote for your party: use our quote form.

Looking after everyone

Most people love a hog roast, but it’s pork. Here’s how to cover everyone:

  • Add a dietary question to the invite
  • Halal isn’t offered, so arrange it separately if needed
  • Find out who doesn’t eat pork so we can bring chicken or a vegetarian option
  • Keep the vegetarian option labelled

We set up in the agreed spot, so the party carries on around us.

Add coleslaw, salads and jacket potatoes to make it a full meal.

Before you choose a spot

A hog roast cooks outdoors for hours, so the spot matters, so a few things are worth checking:

  • Somewhere dry for guests to eat
  • A word with the neighbours
  • Access for the roaster through a gate or passage

If you are unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think.

From the roaster

  • Coleslaw
  • Crackling
  • Vegan burger or sausage (Ve)
  • Jacket potatoes
  • Stuffing and apple sauce
  • Halloumi skewers (V)
  • Rotisserie chicken
  • Hog roast rolls
  • Salads

How it works

From setting up to the last roll, we look after the food, so you can get on with your party. At midsummer, it’s light in Hodsoll Street until about 9:20pm, so a garden party can run well into the evening. In late September it is dark by about 7:00pm; add lights for the evening.

  1. Tell us about your party: date, address and numbers.
  2. We check the space and send a price.
  3. We arrive early and get the roast going.
  4. We carve and serve at food time.
  5. We clear the serving area and go.

Before we arrive

  • Choose someone to meet us on arrival
  • Choose a level, open spot outdoors for the roaster
  • Think about shelter for your guests
