How we price a hog roast for your wedding
Things that change the price:
- The number of people
- The date and time of year
- Plates or china
- Menu choices and extras
A hog roast is frequently good value for a crowd, since one roast goes a long way. The menu, extras such as china and the serving time all affect the final price.
What we need to know
The more we know, the more accurate the quote. Please include:
- Rules from the venue or landowner
- What the outdoor space is like
- Your menu choices
- Your date and serving time
Tell us your date, venue or postcode and roughly how many people, along with your serving time. We’ll confirm availability and send a price. Use our quote form.
How our wedding hog roast works in Askett
For the wedding breakfast, a hog roast becomes a plated meal: carved pork with salads, new potatoes or roast potatoes, on china if you’d like. Whether it is post-wedding gatherings and relaxed, low-key weddings, we’ll put together a menu of crackling, new potatoes and halloumi skewers.
Rural weddings around Askett have a magic of their own, and slow-roasted pork carved for guests adds to it. Plan firm ground and a route for our vehicle. We bring the people to serve and clear up, so you are not left handing out rolls.

Looking after everyone
Most people love a hog roast, but it’s pork. Some ways to look after everyone:
- Stuffing normally contains gluten
- Count non-pork eaters, so we can add lamb, chicken or vegetarian options
- Give us vegetarian and vegan numbers
- If any guests need halal food, arrange it separately
If speeches overrun or the band starts late, we adjust. Just keep us informed.
Salads, new potatoes and roast potatoes make a full wedding breakfast.
The menu, dish by dish
Rotisserie chicken
Chicken off the rotisserie, carved or jointed can be served in a roll or on a plate.
Crackling
For many people, the crackling is the best bit: golden, crunchy and salty.
Organising for someone else?
If the event is on someone else’s land, the landowner needs to agree to cooking and vehicles. Sort that first.
For venues and planners, we can fit around your other suppliers.
Why choose a hog roast in Askett?
A common mix is a plated meal followed by an evening hog roast; others make the hog roast the main meal. When comparing prices, compare the same things: menu, sides, serving time, staff, plates and travel. A cheaper headline price can leave things out.
Why book with us
- Roasted on site, slowly, for hours
- Timed around your day
- Self-contained: roaster, cover and serving kit
- Lamb, chicken and vegetarian options alongside
Read our prices page or our hog roast cost guide.
The process
Slow roasting is the whole point: hours of gentle heat make the pork soft and juicy while the skin turns into crackling. It rests for a short while before carving. For a summer wedding in Askett, the sun sets at about 9:25pm in late June and about 7:05pm in late September, which means an evening hog roast is normally served in daylight in high summer. Later in the year, plan lighting: in December it’s dark by about 3:55pm.

Do you clear up?
We clear the serving area and pack away, and leave the area tidy.
What the cooking area needs
Most gardens, car parks, yards and fields work if a few things are right. Here’s what helps:
- A serving area close to where guests eat
- A safe distance from marquee walls, buildings and trees
- A level, open cooking spot outside the marquee or barn
If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise.

Full catering or machine hire?
Roasting a whole hog yourself is possible, but it takes hours of attention, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. A catered hog roast means you can enjoy the day.
Catered or DIY? With catering, our chef roasts, carves and serves, and our staff clear up. With DIY hire, you do the work and save on staffing.
