Wedding hog roast in Aston Rowant, slow-roasted on site
Wedding timings shift, and a slow roast copes well: a cooked roast holds for a while, so the food copes with a delayed running order. We’re often asked to cater wedding breakfasts with sides and relaxed, low-key weddings, with crackling, new potatoes and rotisserie chicken.
A wedding in a small place like Aston Rowant frequently means a field, a barn or a family garden. That is where a hog roast shines: no kitchen, just level ground and cover. Let us know about access and ground. Plates come as standard, and china crockery is available on request, quoted separately.

A hog roast or other catering?
Compared with a barbecue, one roast feeds all your guests together. Compare like for like: the menu, sides, service time, staffing, crockery and travel. The cheapest quote is not always the best value.
Why book our hog roast in Aston Rowant
- Cooked on the day, low and slow
- Salads, potatoes and coleslaw to go with it
- Lamb, chicken and vegetarian options alongside
- Fresh carving at the serving station

How we price a hog roast for your wedding
We don’t use a fixed price list, since every event is different. What matters most:
- The serving time and how long we’re on site
- Numbers
- The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken
- Access to the cooking area
Most of the cost is the meat, the staff and the time on site. A long, slow roast means an early start, and the quote reflects that.
What to tell us
To get the best quote, send us:
- The venue or postcode
- Any extras, such as lamb, chicken or china
- Any dietary needs or allergies
- The date and when you’d like to eat

Aston Rowant questions
Can you cater after a service at Church of St Peter and St Paul?
Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is usually elsewhere. Send us the address.
Is Aston Rowant too small for a hog roast?
No, we come to small places too. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.
Do you do evening food?
Yes, evening food is very popular. Hot pork rolls are perfect late in the evening.
Who serves?
Our chef carves and our staff serve, and we clear up when service is finished.
What comes with the hog roast?
Rolls with roast pork, stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. Extras include lamb, chicken, halloumi skewers, a vegan option, salads and potatoes.
Do we need extra food?
With sides, it’s a full wedding breakfast; for evening food, rolls are normally enough.
Can a hog roast be our wedding breakfast?
It works well as a relaxed main meal, with lamb, chicken and vegetarian options alongside.
When should we book?
Summer Saturdays and December book up first. For other dates, a few weeks can be enough. Ask and we’ll check.
What comes off the roaster
Rolls and gluten-free rolls
Rolls or plates? Rolls are quicker; plates suit a sit-down meal, with gluten-free rolls on request.
Rotisserie chicken
Golden rotisserie chicken can be served in a roll or on a plate.

Looking after everyone
A little planning helps everyone eat safely. Here are a few tips:
- Ask about dietary needs on your RSVP card
- If any guests need halal food, arrange it separately
- Note which guests don’t eat pork, for lamb, chicken or a vegetarian choice
- Confirm final numbers a week or so before
We will liaise with your venue coordinator, for access and timings.
Salads, new potatoes and roast potatoes make a full wedding breakfast.
Catered or do it yourself?
We also hire out the hog roast machine for confident cooks. You cook and carve it yourself; we’ll explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.
Roasting a whole hog yourself is possible, but it takes hours of attention, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.
What happens on the day
We roast under cover, so a shower won’t spoil the food. Your guests will still want somewhere dry to eat, such as a marquee, hall or barn. Golden-hour photos in Aston Rowant at midsummer come around 9:25pm, so we can time the carving before or after your sunset photos. In late May, sunset is about 8:55pm, and in late September about 7:05pm.
- We start with your date, venue, numbers and running order.
- You get a check on the date and venue, and a quote.
- We agree arrival, cooking spot and serving times with you and your venue.
- We roast during the ceremony and drinks, then carve at the agreed time.
- Afterwards we tidy our area and leave you to the party.
