The process

Service is quick once we start carving: the chef carves and the team serves, and sides go out at the same time. When everyone has eaten, we clear up and leave the spot tidy. Evening food at a Bowcombe wedding frequently goes out just as the light fades: about 9:20pm at midsummer, 8:55pm in late May and 7:10pm in late September. A few lights by the serving table help guests and photos alike.

  1. Share your date, venue, numbers and which meal you’d like.
  2. We check the venue’s rules and the date, then send a quote.
  3. We agree arrival, cooking spot and serving times with you and your venue.
  4. We roast during the ceremony and drinks, then carve at the agreed time.
  5. Afterwards we tidy our area and leave you to the party.

What a hog roast costs

Each price is built from:

  • Season and day of the week
  • Plates or china
  • Distance from us
  • The number of people

The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, along with distance and how easy the site is. Every booking is different, so we quote each one individually.

What to tell us

We can quote more accurately with a few details. Here’s what’s useful:

  • Any dietary needs or allergies
  • An estimate of numbers
  • The venue or postcode
  • Which meats and sides you’d like

When you’re weighing up caterers, check what each quote actually includes. Ours lists it clearly. To get yours, fill in our quote form.

Working with your venue

For events on land you don’t own, such as a park or field, the landowner needs to agree to cooking and vehicles. Sort that first.

Venues often have rules for outside caterers, from approved lists to where a gas roaster can go. Check early, and pass on anything they need from us.

Planning for dietary needs

Standard rolls and stuffing contain gluten, so ask for gluten-free rolls if you need them. A few more tips:

  • Give us vegetarian and vegan numbers
  • Confirm final numbers a week or so before
  • Count non-pork eaters, so we can add lamb, chicken or vegetarian options
  • If any guests need halal food, arrange it separately

If speeches overrun or the band starts late, we adjust. Your coordinator can keep us posted.

Lamb alongside the pork gives guests a choice.

Why choose a hog roast in Bowcombe?

Some couples have a formal meal and a hog roast in the evening; others have the hog roast as the main event. Distance is part of the price: travel is included in your quote, with any London charges listed. Tell us the exact address so the quote is accurate.

  • Planned to your running order
  • We bring everything to cook and serve
  • Serving and clearing done for you

What we serve, dish by dish

Crackling

For many people, the crackling is the best bit: crisp, golden and full of flavour.

Salads, potatoes and coleslaw

Choose from salads, new potatoes, coleslaw and roast or jacket potatoes, to suit your event.
