Wedding hog roast near Clerkenwell

A hog roast gives your wedding a centrepiece: people gather round as the chef carves. It feels like an occasion. On the menu are salads, carved roast pork and rotisserie chicken, and we’re often booked for evening receptions and the day after the wedding.

In Clerkenwell, venues set rules on outside caterers and gas cooking. A courtyard, garden or yard is ideal, and we’ll work through it together. We bring the roaster, the cover and everything we need to cook and serve, and we pack away and leave the area as we found it.

What a hog roast costs

Every booking is priced individually, based on a few main things:

  • Travel to Clerkenwell
  • The serving time and how long we’re on site
  • Busy dates such as summer Saturdays
  • The number of people

The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, plus travel and access. There’s no one-size price, which is why each one gets its own quote.

What to tell us

To check availability and the cooking area, tell us:

  • Any dietary needs or allergies
  • Where the event is
  • A picture of the cooking area
  • Which meats and sides you’d like

It is easy to get a price: date, place, numbers and serving time. We’ll reply with a clear price and what’s included. Use our quote form.

Planners, venues and businesses

Venues often have rules for outside caterers, including where gas cooking is allowed. Ask early, and pass on anything they need from us.

For events on land you do not own, such as a park or field, you will need the landowner’s permission for cooking and vehicles. Get that agreed before booking.

Before you choose a spot

Most outdoor spaces can work if a few things are right. Here’s what we look for:

  • A short walk from the serving station to the guests
  • Clear space away from the marquee and any branches
  • A level, open cooking spot outside the marquee or barn

As a London location, Clerkenwell is inside the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and access takes planning: let us know how we reach the cooking spot and where we can park.

Not sure about the cooking spot? Send us a picture and we will tell you honestly before booking.

DIY versus a catered hog roast

Roasting a whole hog yourself is possible, but it takes hours of attention, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

The hardest part of a DIY hog roast is timing: a whole hog takes hours, and it needs to be cooked through safely. If you’d rather not worry about it, let us cook.

Allergies and dietary needs

Allergies and dietary needs are easy to manage if we know in advance. Tips:

  • Give us vegetarian and vegan numbers
  • If any guests need halal food, arrange it separately
  • Stuffing normally contains gluten, so check the allergen list
  • Request gluten-free rolls if needed

Give us your venue coordinator’s details, for access and timings.

Lamb alongside the pork gives guests a choice.

Common questions in Clerkenwell

What’s the nearest station to Clerkenwell?

Clerkenwell has its own station: Farringdon station.

Can you do a hog roast in King Square Gardens?

Only with permission from the park’s owner, usually the council, and many parks don’t allow cooking. Ask them first, and tell us what they say.

Do we need our own staff?

We carve and serve for you, then clear the serving area afterwards.

Do you do DIY hog roast hire?

We do, if you are happy to roast and carve yourself. Ask and we will talk you through it.

Do you provide china?

Plates are included. China is available at an extra cost.

Can you cook inside a hall or marquee?

It cooks outside, under a gazebo, on a level spot. Serving indoors is generally fine if the venue is happy.

How much does a hog roast cost?

Every booking is quoted individually, based on numbers, menu, service time and distance. Ask us for a quote.

How much room do you need?

A level, open area outdoors with room for the roaster, a gazebo and a carving table, well clear of walls, tents and branches. We will check it with you before booking.

The process

The roaster is gas-fired, so cooking does not depend on mains power, though a socket nearby is handy for lighting. In Clerkenwell, midsummer sunset is about 9:20pm, and by late September it is nearer 7:05pm, which means an evening hog roast is normally served in daylight in high summer. For autumn and winter weddings, when it’s dark by about 3:55pm in December, plan lighting at the carving station.

  1. Send us the date, venue and guest numbers.
  2. We confirm the date and the venue and send a price.
  3. We agree timings with your venue coordinator.
  4. The hog roasts through the afternoon; our chef carves on cue.
  5. Our staff serve and clear, then we leave quietly.

Getting ready for the day

  • Name a contact for the day
  • Measure the narrowest gate or passage
  • Keep the spot clear of buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches
