How our wedding hog roast works in Pentonville

A hog roast gives your wedding a centrepiece: guests gather, the chef carves and the crackling disappears fast. It’s food and a bit of theatre. We are often asked to cater weddings in a marquee and rustic barn receptions, with salads, new potatoes and carved roast pork.

In Pentonville, venues set rules on outside caterers and gas cooking. Ask about a courtyard or garden, and we will agree the details with them. The hog is roasted on site at your wedding, slowly, over several hours.

DIY versus a catered hog roast

Full catering or machine hire? Catered means we do everything: roasting, carving, serving and clearing. With DIY hire, you do the work and save on staffing.

Roasting a whole hog yourself is possible, but it takes hours of attention, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

What affects the price in Pentonville

We work out each quote from:

  • Travel to Pentonville
  • Time on site
  • The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken
  • Season and day of the week

Numbers make the biggest difference: bigger groups generally cost less per head, because the roaster, staff and travel cost much the same either way.

Details that help

To get the best quote, tell us:

  • Allergies we should know about
  • Your menu choices
  • The address or postcode
  • Your date and serving time

Not sure how many to cater for? Give us your best estimate and we will quote on that, then confirm closer to the date. Fill in our quote form.

Looking after everyone

A little planning helps everyone eat safely. Here are a few tips:

  • Request gluten-free rolls if needed
  • If any guests need halal food, arrange it separately
  • Give your coordinator the final menu
  • Pass numbers for vegetarians and vegans to us

We will be at the venue for most of the day, out of the way, by the cooking area.

Choose sides to make it a full meal.

Questions from Pentonville

What if our house in Pentonville has no side access?

It depends on access: a rear gate or yard typically works. Tell us about steps, gates and parking and we will advise.

Could you cook in Barnard Park?

Only if the landowner, normally the council, allows it. Check with them first, and tell us what they say.

What’s the price?

Every booking is quoted individually, based on numbers, menu, service time and distance. Tell us about your wedding for a quote.

Does the roaster have to be outside?

Outside, always. The food can be carried in and served indoors where the venue allows.

Do you bring plates?

We bring plates as standard. China crockery is available on request and quoted separately.

Can you do gluten-free?

Ask for gluten-free rolls and we’ll bring them. We’ll give you full allergen information for every dish.

How do you work out quantities?

We size the roast to your numbers, so tell us your best estimate. The quote sets it out.

Can you cater for vegetarians?

We can add lamb or chicken, plus halloumi skewers for vegetarians and a vegan burger or sausage. We do not provide halal meat.

What the cooking area needs

The roaster needs space, cover and a safe distance from anything that could catch the heat. Things to check:

  • A serving area close to where guests eat
  • Step-free access for our equipment
  • Permission for outside catering

Pentonville is in London, within the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and access can be tight: tell us about side or rear access, steps and parking for our vehicle.

Choosing a hog roast caterer

A hog roast compared with other options

Compared with a barbecue, a hog roast feeds everyone at once from one roast without batches coming off a grill. Cost depends on numbers, menu choices and service time, along with distance and how easy the site is. Every booking is different, so we quote each one individually.

Why book with us

  • Sides to make it a full meal
  • Self-contained: roaster, cover and serving kit
  • Rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Roasted on site, slowly, for hours

Planners, venues and businesses

Event organisers frequently ask caterers for paperwork such as a risk assessment. Let us know what your event requires and we will tell you what we can send.

Some venues add a fee for outside caterers, so check before you book. We’ll liaise with them on access and set-up.

Step by step

When we arrive, we set up the roaster on the agreed spot, put the cover up and start the roast. It then roasts slowly for several hours, timed so it’s ready when you want to eat. Evening food at a Pentonville wedding often goes out just as the light fades: sunset is around 8:50pm in late May, 9:20pm at midsummer and 7:05pm in late September. A few lights by the serving table help guests and photos alike.

  1. Share your date, venue, numbers and which meal you’d like.
  2. You get a check on the date and venue, and a quote.
  3. Timings and the cooking spot are agreed with you and the venue coordinator.
  4. We cook through the day and serve right on cue.
  5. We clear away once everyone has eaten.

Preparing for the day

  • Plan a step-free way in for the equipment
  • Let us know about tight access
  • Collect dietary needs and allergies in advance
