Wedding hog roast in Great Rollright, slow-roasted on site

Wedding timings shift, and a slow roast copes well: it can be held for a while once cooked, so the food copes with a delayed running order. We are often asked to cater weddings in a marquee and relaxed, low-key weddings, with rotisserie chicken, halloumi skewers and new potatoes.

Near Great Rollright, weddings are frequently in fields, barns or gardens. That is where a hog roast shines: no kitchen, just level ground and cover. Tell us about lanes, gates and ground conditions. Catered or do it yourself?

If you’re confident and want to save on staff, DIY machine hire is an option. You do the roasting and carving; we’ll explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

A barbecue is the other obvious choice, but someone ends up cooking in batches all afternoon. With a hog roast, one roast feeds everyone at once.

Allergies and dietary needs

Allergies and dietary needs are easy to manage if we know in advance. Tips:

  • Put a dietary question on the invitation
  • Remember that stuffing generally contains gluten, so check the allergen list
  • Halal is not offered, so plan separately if needed
  • Note which guests don’t eat pork, so we can add lamb, chicken or vegetarian options

We will be at the venue for most of the day, out of the way, by the cooking area.

Salads, new potatoes and roast potatoes make a full wedding breakfast.

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

Halloumi and vegetable skewers are the vegetarian choice: grilled halloumi with vegetables.

What a hog roast costs

The biggest factors are:

  • Crockery choices
  • Which meats and sides you choose
  • The serving time and how long we’re on site
  • The date and time of year

Travel matters for the price: we include travel in the quote, with any London charges listed. Give us the address so the quote is accurate.

Details that help

The more we know, the more accurate the quote. Useful details:

  • Any extras, such as lamb, chicken or china
  • Allergies we should know about
  • The date and time of the event
  • Where the roaster could go, ideally with a photo

It is easy to get a price: tell us when, where, how many and what time you’d like to eat. You will get a clear quote listing what’s included. Fill in our quote form.

Why choose a hog roast in Great Rollright?

Compared with a three-course plated meal, a hog roast wedding breakfast is relaxed and typically costs less per head. It still feels like a feast. A hog roast is often good value for a crowd, because one whole roast feeds a lot of people. Extras, china and longer service add to it.

Great Rollright: your questions answered

Is Great Rollright close to London?

Roughly 70 miles from the centre of London, and well within our area.

Is Great Rollright too small for a hog roast?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.

What if it rains?

Rain doesn’t stop the cooking. A marquee, hall or barn for eating makes all the difference.

Can you do gluten-free?

Gluten-free rolls are available on request. Stuffing normally contains gluten, so check the allergen information.

Can you do our evening wedding food?

It’s one of our most popular wedding bookings. Rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling go down well after dancing.

Do venues allow outside hog roasts?

Check with the venue first: rules vary. We will sort the details with them.

How soon do you get booked up?

The earlier the better for popular dates. But do ask even at short notice: use our quote form.

Do you serve the food?

We carve and serve for you, and we clear up when service is finished.

The process

The secret is time: the meat cooks gently until it’s tender while the skin turns into crackling. Then it rests briefly before our chef carves. In Great Rollright, midsummer sunset is about 9:30pm, and by late September it’s nearer 7:10pm, which means an evening hog roast is usually served in daylight in high summer. For autumn and winter weddings, when it’s dark by about 3:55pm in December, plan lighting at the carving station.

  1. Share your date, venue, numbers and which meal you’d like.
  2. We check the venue and the cooking spot and send a price.
  3. We fit our timings around your running order and the venue.
  4. We roast during the ceremony and drinks, then carve at the agreed time.
  5. Our staff clear the serving area and we leave quietly.

How to prepare

  • Collect dietary needs and allergies in advance
  • Name a contact for the day
  • Choose a level, open spot outdoors for the roaster
